Although Lumia devices tend to garner the most attention on Windows Phone, Samsung comes in second with their occasional ATIV releases, including the recent Verizon ATIV SE. Like Nokia, Samsung makes their own apps for their branded Windows Phones in an attempt to differentiate themselves from the competition.
Today, Samsung has released a new app named ATIV BizCard.
ATIV BizCard is a familiar but helpful tool for professionals: business card scanner. The app leverages the ATIV camera and optical character recognition (OCR) automatically to scan a business card and auto-import the information into a new contact. Such an app is not unique to Samsung, as there are third-party companies who specialize in this type of thing, but their version does work quite well.
Options in the app include using the flash, manually taking a photo or importing a photo from the phone's image library. Once the OCR completes its task, the user can verify and modify the details before saving to the phone's Contacts. From our brief testing, the OCR works decently though there are occasional errors.
ATIV BizCard is not a revolutionary app, but it is still nice to see Samsung creating apps for Windows Phone.
