Developer Hi-Rez Studios has started taking signs up for players to beta test the upcoming Xbox One version of SMITE, their mythology-based MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game that is already available on the PC.
We have no word yet on when the beta for SMITE will actually begin on the Xbox One, but Hi-Rez Studios has already confirmed that it will be a free-to-play game on the platform, just like on the PC version. Hi-Rez has also just released a new CGI trailer for SMITE. Here's a quick description:
"Players choose from a diverse cast of deities and use their unique powers to triumph over the opposition in 5v5 team matches. SMITE is a new take on the MOBA genre; rather than observing from above the action, the game's third person perspective puts players into the thick of combat. Instead of clicking the mouse to move, players [on PC] use the familiar WASD keys to move and fight their way through SMITE's dynamic battlegrounds."
If you happen to be in the Atlanta area this weekend, you can check out an early version of SMITE on the Xbox One as part of the SMITE World Championship tournament at the Cobb Performing Arts Center, to be held from Friday through Sunday. Players from around the world will be competing for their share of a massive $2.5 million prize pool.
Let us know if you get accepted into the beta!
