Songbox is a new Windows Phone app that hopes to put add a musical twist to social networking. The app is really quite simple and lets you record ten seconds of your favorite song and share it with other Songbox members to rate. The twist is that the recording is you singing the snippet, not your favorite band/artist.

Songbox comes across as a nifty way to share your pipes with others and check out the rest of the talent out in the world.

You will need to sign-up for a Songbox membership (free) to upload songs but up or down voting doesn't appear to require a membership.

Once you launch Songbox, you will be greeted with a members song and can up or down vote. Once voted, another tune will appear.

Once membership is established, you can create a user profile and upload your own song snippets. Recordings are limited to 10 seconds and there is no limit to how many snippets you can upload.

Songbox allows you to follow members and any songs uploaded will be instantly shared with your followers. If you feel the need, you can also leave comments to other members on their tunes.

I can see Songbox appealing to those who like singing in the shower, late at night when nobody is around or simply want to share their talents with others. It may be an app to avoid if stray dogs start to howl at the sound of your voice though.
