Songza to play its final tune in January, will point users to Google Play Music

Almost a year and a half after its acquisition by Google, music streaming service Songza is preparing to play its final tune. It was revealed today that Songza will shut down on January 31, 2016, allowing users to transition their accounts to Google Play Music, which means Windows Phone users will unfortunately be left out in the cold. In an email being sent to users, first reported by TechCrunch, Songza says it is making that transition fairly simple for current users:

Soon, when you visit Songza, you'll be greeted with a prompt that will let you bring all of your Songza listening history and favorite playlists over to Google Play Music — so please make sure to do that! Using all of Songza's features in Google Play Music is 100% free and doesn't require a credit card, you just need to accept our new Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy (if you haven't already).

Songza is perhaps best known for serving up fitting playlists based on moods, times of day, or activities. Google Play Music added Songza integration just a few months after Google acquired the service in October of 2014, bringing the same notable playlist features to Google's own offering. Unfortunately, unless some sort of miracle happens between now and January and Google releases a Google Play Music app for Windows Phone, Songza users on the platform will have to turn somewhere else for their curated playlist fix.

If you're a Songza user, be sure to give us your thoughts about the shutdown in the comments below!
