Steve Jobs: 1955 - 2011

Sadly, one of the greats of our time and a revolutionary of this technological world, Steve Jobs has passed away today. Apple sent out the following press release to confirm what the public was not looking forward to hearing:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts."

While the news may not specifically be WP7 related, we would be remiss to forget that it was under his leadership that the entire mobile tech world was flipped over with the release of the original iPhone in 2007. Without Steve Jobs, we may not have made the amazing advancements in technology that we've had, and for that, we thank him.

Rest in Peace, Steve Jobs. You fought well and hard to your very last days. Here at WPCentral, we will remember your contributions for a very long time to come. Cheers to the foundation that you laid before us, and to the bright future that is still ahead because of your work.

Steve Jobs: 1955 - 2011

I agree. For years I never liked Apple or their products. I'm a Microsoft Guy myself ... program in C#, XNA, Silverlight, etc., but when I won my itouch 2 years ago and used it for the first time, I immediately understood the alure. It was a slick piece of hardware and well done at that. Steve really did push people to be better and innovate more. The world will miss his legendary genius. May peace be with his Family and Friends during this time and may God bless them.Steve, Rest in peace.

Just awful. Without Steve Jobs, Microsoft wouldn't have innovated as much as they have with Windows Phone.

Sad news. My thoughts and prayers to his loved ones. Like others, not a fan of Apple products, but there's no denying their presence has promoted competition and, thus, better products for all.

This is devastating news, even from an anti-apple type of a guy. He revolutionized the consumer electronics industry and made the world an easier and more enjoyable place for many people. He certainly deserves the highest respect for anyone who enjoys modern technology. Without him, even our Windows Phone's certainly wouldn't be what they are today.

This is very sad... he was a genuine genious...a man with passion and vision... Apple will never be the same, and sadly, technology won't be the same without people like him... R.I.P.

Competition is good. Lets hope Apple keeps his legacy going strong. I'm not an Apple person but I won't deny they aren't quality/cool products. R.I.P. Steve Jobs.

Sad to see him pass may he rest in peace. I hate dislike Apple but Steve Jobs did do one thing that no other person has done in a while and that was push competitors. Its like Rocky vs Apollo Creed (i.e Rocky I and II). Both to heavy hitters duking it out hopefully the tech world wont stop progressing but everyone dies and i guess it was his time. May god bless his family and hope Steve jobs is in a better place.

Was never a great fan of Apple products but there is no dening what this Man and Apple have done for the Tech industry. RIP

Wow. He was the epitome of good old fashioned American ingenuity and vision. You gotta respect his drive and ability to put his stamp on the world for the better. God bless him and his family.

Although I knew this day was coming, it still was a shock to hear about his passing. Steve Jobs was truly the industry's visionary and I appreciated his presence in the marketplace and the competition that forced everyone to bring better products to consumers. Most of my technologies are Windows based, but I do own an iPad2 that I constantly use. May Steve Jobs rest in peace.

bad business practices, too high of a markup and never a product made in the USA (Foxconn)- but no doubt pushed the industry and kicked some ****

i Guess he couldn't take it no more after seeing the failure of iphone4s... And decided to let go...

Best wishes to his family. So sad to see someone who had such a great imagination gone. Rest in peace Steve Jobs, Legends never die, and you sir are definitely a legend.
