More information has been revealed about the hardware specifications for the Surface 3 Docking Station. It's now available for pre-order alongside the newly-revealed 10.8-inch tablet for $199 with shipments beginning on May 5.
The docking station for the Surface 3 has four USB posts on the back, 2 with USB 2.0 and 2 with USB 3.0, compared to the five USB ports on the wider Surface Pro 3 Docking Station. The new 1.76-pound accessory has a gigabit Ethernet port for wired Internet connections at home or away from home. It also has a Mini DisplayPort that allows the Surface 3 to connect to an external monitor and display its content on resolutions up to 3840x2600.
Of course, the Surface 3 Docking Station can serve as a recharging location for the tablet, thanks to its 48-watt power supply. It also has a 3.5mm audio input/output connection and a security lock for people who don't want their Surface 3 to be stolen. Finally, there's storage for the tablet's optional Surface Pen, which is a nice touch. Better than lying around on your desk.
