System Shock reboot will begin its Kickstarter fundraising campaign on June 28

The long-awaited Kickstarter fundraising campaign for the upcoming reboot of System Shock will begin on Tuesday, June 28. Night Dive Studios wants to raise $900,000 to release the graphically revamped version of the classic 1994 Looking Glass Studios sci-fi RPG. The new version will be released for the PC and Xbox One.

Polygon reports that the game itself will now be called simply System Shock, instead of the previous name System Shock Remastered:

"We felt that the amount of passion and resources that we are putting into this game elevated it beyond the expectations that someone would have for a remaster," CEO Stephen Kick said. "This is a full-fledged reboot of a classic game into something new."

The Kickstarter campaign will be accompanied by a short Windows demo of System Shock, which will be released via Steam, GOG and Humble. Some of the rewards for the campaign will include a physical disc copy for PC and Xbox One platforms and, for those of you with lots of money, a System Shock-branded Razer Blade gaming laptop, as seen below. Assuming the campaign is successful, System Shock will be released sometime in 2017.
