Nearly two years ago, Panasonic announced their new 4K Toughpad, a monstrous Windows Tablet sporting an outstanding 20-inch 3840 x 2560 LCD.

Last night, during Microsoft's device showcase, many of this year's latest and greatest devices were out for play as well as this 4K Toughpad. We had never seen one in person, so it was quite a blast to be able to handle one. Later that night, Microsoft's Juha Alakarhu used it for a Lumia presentation on the world's largest observation wheel, the High Roller

4K monitors could be about to get a whole lot less expensive as Intel has announced a partnership with Samsung to produce units retailing this year for $399. Currently pairing up your Windows PC with a 4K monitor can be an expensive business with prices stretching into the thousands. But at Computex, in Taiwan, the collaboration with Samsung was announced to bring the cost of panels down by half.

While smartphone screen sizes appear to be closing the gap between the mobile phone and tablet, larger handheld devices are further advancing screen technology and Japan Display is looking to add 4K to the mix. The company has announced a new 10.1-inch IPS LCD display with a "4K2K" resolution (3840 x 2160). This would provide a super high-definition experience for tablet owners with a pixel density of 438ppi, comparable to premium smartphones.

While 3D technology seemed to fall through relatively quickly, the 4K revolution may just be a real thing. This year at CES 2014, Toshiba introduced the world's first laptops with 4K resolution displays. The movement marks a huge milestone for fans of Ultra HD displays and promises to deliver the ultimate entertainment (and even work) solutions.
