black friday

If you haven't yet picked up an Xbox One, Black Friday might be the best time to finally dive in. Microsoft and several retailers are offering deals on Xbox One consoles and bundles in a $70-off promotion for the console. The promotion goes from November 27-29 at all participating retailers, then again on December 1, Cyber Monday, online only.

'Tis the season to great game and entertainment deals! Earlier today we broke down where you could get the best deals for Xbox One games from retailers, which you can read here. Yet some of you were left unsatisfied that we didn't do a post for digital sales. We're rectifying that now as the Xbox Store just announced its Black Friday sale for those ready to indulge in some digital greatness, featuring heavy discounts on movies, games, and TV season passes.

Here in the United States we’re a day away from Thanksgiving. It’s a great time to get together with family and friends while taking a moment to reflect on things you’re thankful for. Things like smartphones, tablets, and Black Friday sales are things we’re quite thankful of. The Xbox One just came out last Friday, but there’s going to be some insane savings on games for the Xbox 360 on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Details after the break.

If you have a Windows Phone, you probably use Bing and if you have PC or Surface, you probably use it as well. Good news then if you’re enrolled in the Bing Rewards program, because for only 2 credits, you can redeem yourself a 5% discount coupon from the Microsoft Store.

The offer is only good through this weekend but that also means that you can stack this on top of the big Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales expected to go live soon.

The Nokia Lumia 520 can make a strong contender for Windows Phone of the year when we look back at 2013. The device is responsible for massively increasing the number of Windows Phone devices out there roaming the streets. We’ve seen rumors of its successor, the Lumia 525, coming soon, but the Lumia 520 is still an excellent smartphone for a number of users. Want one? Pick it up next week from Tiger Direct for a song as part of their Black Friday deals.

Black Friday is only two and a half weeks away and it is already time to start prepping for the biggest shopping day of the year. Upcoming deals and sales have already begun to leak and one specific deal from Best Buy has attracted our attention. Best Buy will be selling Microsoft’s Surface (First Generation) 32 GB tablet for only $199.

Have you been thinking of getting the Nokia Lumia 810 on T-Mobile? You should as it's a swell phone (our review will be coming this weekend). If you have thought about it, tomorrow may be your day as it looks like T-Mobile is on the cusp of unleashing their Black Friday sale.

Heading to their sale page, you can clearly see the Lumia 810 going for $0. That's roughly $150 off the original price (T-Mobile has it for $99 but that is only after a $50 mail in rebate, so it's actually $150 up front).

From this Friday AT&T will be offering the Lumia 920 at any of its company owned retail stores for $49.99. Of course you’ll need to sign a contract for two years with voice and data, but at least the carrier will be matching both Amazon and Walmart.

This Friday will see plenty of ‘crazy deals’ but this still some compelling pricing from AT&T who are already selling the device for $99.99.  The deal is available from this Friday 23rd to the 25th for those of you who are keen to grab one.

If you haven't picked up a Surface yet and have been waiting for an incentive, here's one. On Black Friday the first 100 people to buy a Surface in a Microsoft retail store will get a special 'Designed for Surface' protective sleeve.

While you're not getting a discount on the tablet device itselt, it's still a $50 item thrown in that you'll probably put to good. Gotta protect that VaporMG casing! It's a nice little deal for those who were already looking on buying a Surface and happen to have a retail Microsoft Store around, maybe like the one in Canada that just opened.

In case you needed some apps today, especially ones that are on sale, we have two to mention for you.

IM+ Pro, the all inclusive instant messaging app with push notifications and Mango-optimizations, is 50% off from its usual $4.99 to a more reasonable $2.49. The app just hit v1.9 recently, adding more improvements. There is of course a free version of the app with ads, but with the Pro you get a less cluttered, more streamlined look--which is what we personally opt for. Seems like a good deal though, so grab it here in the Marketplace if interested.

Likewise, Surfcube 3D browser, which sets the standard for a great UI while browsing, is also on sale for $0.99. Surfcube 3D is a great tabbed browsing experience that allows you use gestures to "rotate" the screen around for quick access to the address bar, tabs and options. You also get full-screen browsing and some great share features as well. The app recently under went some Mango-upgrades itself and if you surf a lot, you'll want to give this great app a trial run too. Pick that up here in the Marketplace.

The title says it all. If you're one of the lucky folks near a Microsoft Store, you can swing by there on Friday to pick up one of those swanky new second-generation Windows Phones for a super low price of zero dollars (on contract).

Yeah, there's that last bit of being on contract. But if you have even thought about switching to the Death Star aka AT&T even for a aplit second (it's really not that bad), we have to say, picking up the TITAN for nothing? That's a good deal. Heck, we may even pick up a phone or two for family members. Not sure if a store is near you? Here's your store locator.

As a side, who else can't wait to have a Microsoft Store near them? Thanks, Rudy R., for the photo!

Edit: As noted in comments, this may even apply to online orders. Stay tuned on Friday!

BlackFriday - Mango App Spotlight

Planning on hitting the shopping mall on Black Friday? Need an easy way to track the bargains from your Windows Phone? If so, check out the Windows Phone app BlackFriday.

BlackFriday is powered by the website BlackFriday.info that pulls all the deals they can find under one roof and sends them to your Windows Phone. The main pages of the app list news items, store listings, categories of shopping and a keyword search page. Once you've found a store or category you are interested in, the app will pull all the sales listings.

Tap on an individual listing and you'll pull up any web listing for that sale item. You also have the ability to map local retailers from BlackFriday and share deals with friends. The app will use your Windows Phone's location services to pull in deals within your area.

In just tinkering with BlackFriday it comes across as a useful app for the shopaholic and a nice utility to find your way to the bargains. There is a free trial version available that will give you a feel for the app but is restricted on how many bargains it will list. The full version will run you $1.99 and you can download it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Last week, Sonic 4, Full House Poker, and Assassin’s Creed all went on sale for half a day before mysteriously returning to full price. Those three Xbox Live titles are now officially on sale for the week of November 22-28, apparently as part of a Black Friday sale.

Sonic 4: Episode 1 is a 2-dimensional platformer starring the world’s fastest hedgehog. Our review praises its similarity to the XBLA version as well as the touch screen controls, which are the best we’ve encountered in a mobile platformer. Sonic 4 regularly sells for $6.99, but it’s $4.99 this week. Marketplace link

Full House Poker (review) is a single-player Texas Hold ‘Em simulator. Not only was it the first Windows Phone title to feature full Avatar integration, it also shares excellent connectivity with the Xbox 360 version of the game. Full House Poker is on sale for $1.99, down from $2.99. Marketplace link

Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles (review) is a 3D platformer/action title set in the middle ages. With great graphics and full voice acting (though the acting is atrocious), it feels like a DS game squeezed into a mobile title (‘cause it is). The controls are fiddly and the platforming can be frustrating, but the story and action mostly make up for it. Assassin’s Creed is on sale for $2.99, down from $4.99. Marketplace link
