bug fix

One of the bugs that some of us noticed on Windows Phone, possibly starting after the GDR1 OS update, was a fuzzy and low resolution image of ourselves for the Me tile. It was particularly frustrating on devices with high resolution displays, as everything would look sharp and crisp except for your blurry mini me. Despite re-uploading the photo numerous times, the service, tied to your Live/Outlook account, would downgrade the image and push back a fuzzy version within a few hours.

Today we saw an update arrive for Xbox Live title Cut The Rope, this update looks to have cured the graphical bug seen when launching the game from a dedicated tile on the Start screen.

The otherwise excellent app has exhibited a bug whereby pinning the game to the start screen and launching it would display an odd multi-colour screen and a progress bar. That same thing wouldn’t happen if the app was launched from within the Games Hub.

3D pinball at its finest

Last week we highlighted the new pinball game Dr. Pickaxe as one of our new favorite games for Windows Phone. Developed by Tainicom (who also made The Juggler), the game was on special for $0.99 during its first week and received our 'Editor's Choice' distinction.

Unfortunately that game had a tiny bug in it resulting in the first few games registered under ‘trial’ even after purchased. Even though it only had a limited effect the bug was quickly identified and a v1.01 was pushed out—but then Microsoft held up publication due to their own woes and so the game was hidden until fixed.

Yesterday we showed you how to get the latest firmware for your Lumia 710, version 12070, on your device early but those in Singapore won't have to. As promised earlier, Nokia has started rolling out this update officially for that device in that region meaning all you need to do is plug in your phone to your Zune Desktop.

Singapore is also getting the 12070 firmware update for the Lumia 800 as well.

The update addresses an annoying issue where some users can't end  call once initiated, instead they have to pull the battery or shutdown the phone. Further, this update brings other "performance enhancements" to the table e.g. we notice our phone turns on faster now when we hit the power button.

This is also a good sign that Nokia will begin rolling this update out more globally in the next few weeks, dependent on carrier request.
