Nokia and in this case UK carrier Three, have co-released a new ad for the Nokia Lumia 925. Falling under the “absurd” category, the Finnish smartphone maker asks Do Carrots help you see in the Dark? The ad then shows what looks to be a scientific test with subjects consuming vast quantities of carrots and then engaging in sports like hurdles and boxing, but completely without light.

The subjects of course fail miserably and since people falling down is allegedly funny, it is supposed to get a laugh.

We’ve seen some fairly awesome ‘fan made’ Windows Phone commercials in the past. The most famous was Brandon Foy, whose college project ended up landing him a job at Microsoft.

Now we have another school assignment that has caught the attention of a few, including this site. Made by Phong Luong and friends for their school project (follow the progress on their site), the ad works for us due to the solid music, retro-artsy look and of course focusing on the main features of the phone (PureView camera, wireless charging, unibody design). Plus it just pops out at us.

Nokia is at it again, creating a new people-centric ad that focuses more on life, people and enjoying the "everyday" than the phone itself. It's an odd campaign yet surprisingly effective as it certainly piques interest and causes you to focus on the brand as more identity/philosophy than just a phone.

In that sense, dare we say with their whimsical approach and music, it's almost Apple-like? And that's not a bad thing, in fact we like just everything about Nokia's Lumia ad-campaign so far. (See the recent and fantastic French commercial from this weekend).

So without further ado, here's the Little Amazing Show - Part 1.

We received numerous tips that Windows Phone and SkyDrive were shown off, prominently, on Hawaii Five-0 recently. So we went ahead and found those clips for your viewing pleasure. Turns out they used it twice, with what looks to be the HTC HD7 and while the exact usage of Windows Phone is suspect, we suppose it can't hurt to show off some of those features, eh?

This is the third time, at least, that Windows Phone has appeared on Hawaii Five-0. See earlier last November here and here.

Looks like the "short but sweet" version of some new Windows Phone ads have been put up by Microsoft. The spots, timing in at about 15 seconds each, demonstrate various features of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, including:

While just shorter versions of that nice, long commercial we saw a few days ago, hopefully we'll start to see these play...you know, on TV or on the web somewhere so that folks can actually see the phone.

We keep hearing how Microsoft (and partners) need to sell their devices. And while we mean that in the literal sense, we also mean it in the advertising one as well--they need pizazz, a way to draw in users.

We know with "Mango", Microsoft's partners (OEMs, carriers) will be taking on a larger roll in advertising. What you see above is what looks like to be a first attempt at that, with HTC making a nifty 45 second spot called "HTC TITAN: Reveal". The ad has the phone forming out of air with some solid music playing.

Our only criticism? Would have been nice to throw in some specs--not even a mention of the 4.7" screen? Seems like sacrilege to us. But hey, it's a start.

Microsoft finally looks to be hitting their stride. This new web-commercial for developers shows off the elegance, simplicity and drives home the Metro interface. We really like the look of this, even if it's for devs and not necessarily consumers. Still, we could see Microsoft editing this or redoing some parts for TV and they really should--it's a good start to show off their new UI. After all, it's going to be everywhere soon.

We all know how Microsoft needs a little help with promotion for Windows Phone. But they are getting better at it and with Brandon Foy having graced Microsoft with his talents (though not in marketing), we think they'll make a turn around this fall.

Still, no one sets the bar like the Japanese. For anything. Case in point, this awesome ad for the Fujitsu IS12T. Oh we have no idea what he's saying but does it matter? Nope, it does not. Don't ever change Japan, we love you.

"Skydrive Toi toi toi!"

Thanks, @Kinsoft_Apps, for the tip!

KDDI and Toshiba seem to revving up for the IS12T's release, expected sometime in September. The device was revealed in detail just a few days ago and now a new commercial is floating around. It's actually an extension of their website flash video but nonetheless, it looks pretty snazzy as a teaser of sorts.

No doubt it will be interesting to see how Windows Phone fairs in Japan upon release, notoriously a tough market to crack (even the iPhone took time), as it offers plenty of opportunity for Microsoft if it succeeds.

So last night on CBS, the new series (of an old series) Hawaii Five-O had a snazzy Windows Phone 7 placement. At about 18 minutes in to the show, two of the characters are in a museum. The male character suggests that the art piece was an original Clifton Bowles, the female doesn't believe him (they never do, amirite?), so he tells her to "Bing it!".

The female lead then pulls out an LG Optimus 7 and proceeds to Bing the gentleman's name. After this the show evidently went to commercial, where not one but reportedly two ads appeared. Not bad Microsoft, not bad.

Things I learned: Hawaii Five-O has a lot of pretty girls in it and I'm glad I'm vegetarian.

Thanks, Joe C & Tim O., for the tip!
