Delta

Last month, Delta decided to equip 19,000 of their flight attendants with Windows Phone devices; the move allowed attendants to access a new point of sale system built upon the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail platform. This month Delta has also decided to equip its pilots with Windows tablets, but not the Nokia “Sirius” tablet it had originally planned.

Nokia has announced that Delta Airlines will be rolling out the Lumia 820 Windows Phone to more than 19,000 of its flight attendants. The hardware will be used for on-board payments and to improve the overall experience for customers. Not only is the device sleek looking, but you've got better security and of course the Modern UI that makes it a perfect choice for the company.

Fly Delta updated, fails to address known bugs

The Fly Delta app for Windows Phone has been updated, but there still seems to be issues with logging in for many consumers. These problems were raised by users prior to this release being published, so one would expect the update to contain the necessary improvements, correct? The latest release includes "Bug fixes & performance enhancements" and no, we're not trolling you.

Looks like we missed this one as it came out on the 23rd, but Fly Delta, the official app of Delta Airlines for Windows Phone, managed to get a Mango update. That's always a good thing as fast-app switching between this, your email, Bing Maps and OneNote would seem a common theme amongst travelers.

More importantly, it can now track your luggage for you so you always know where it is. Heck, you can even pin your boarding pass to your Start screen. This is part of a services overhaul as Android and the iPhone recently received updates too--that's a good sign that Windows Phone is keeping up with the competition. Full new feature list included the following:

  • Track your checked bag like you track a package – even during your flight.
  • Pay for bags while checking in and save time at the airport.
  • Aircraft details and layouts for Delta’s fleet.
  • Expanded airport information including airport maps, transit details, weather and Delta Sky Club locations.
  • Support multi-tasking and fast app switching.
  • Let you pin your boarding pass to the start screen.
  • Open airport maps in Bing maps.

Hopefully it also fixed the frequent crashing (no pun intended) that many people reported with the app on the v1.6 release. Looks like a cool update though, so if you're a Delta traveler, give it a go here in the Marketplace. Thanks, Amir, for the heads up!

Fly Delta lands in the Marketplace

Delta Airlines has launched its official Windows Phone app. Fly Delta is designed to make flying the friendly skies more convenient by giving you access to flight schedules, your travel itinerary, and reminding you where you parked your car.

The app allows you to log into your Skymiles Account, which will allow you access to your Skymile balance and Medallion.  You also can access the app as a guest, should you not have a Skymile Account.  Additional features of Fly Delta include:

  • rebook on an alternate flight when yours has been canceled or delayed
  • launch an interactive seat map and pick your seat
  • check your position on the upgrade or standby list
  • see the latest flight status and get terminal and gate info
  • map flights en route with an interactive flight tracker
  • save a photo and make note of your parking spot

Delta is already working on the first update to Fly Delta and hopes to bring the ability to pay baggage fees, track checked bags, view airport maps, browse Delta Sky Club locations, and explore Delta's fleet (plane layouts).

If you are a frequent flyer on Delta, Fly Delta will surely come in handy. Fly Delta is a free application and you can download it here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace.

Thanks goes out to Sasa for the tip!
