As Fitness Month continues here at Windows Phone Central and all of the Mobile Nations sites, we turn our sites on apps to help with our diet. While exercise is a key element of staying fit, so is what we consume during the day. You defeat the purpose of exercise with poor eating habits.

This week's Fitness App Roundup will concentrate on a collection of top rated Windows Phone apps designed to help you count your calories and monitor what foods you take in during the week. There's also an app that will find you recipes based on the ingredients you prefer while avoiding those you are allergic to.

We'll close things out with a Reader's Poll to let you decide which of these diet apps are tops. If we've missed your favorite app, feel free to sound off below in the comments.

Calorie Manager is a simple, straightforward Windows Phone 8 app that helps you manage your calorie intake, set daily goals and check out all the nutritional facts about what you eat. The app also has Fitbit integration that will allow you to transfer your nutritional intake to your Fitbit account.

It’s not the perfect solution to connect Fitbit devices with our Windows Phones but until an official Fitbit app hits the Windows Phone Store shelves, Calorie Manager isn’t a bad option for logging food activity. Even if you do not have a Fitbit device, Calorie Manager makes for a rather nice standalone calorie tracker.

Chicken Recipes is a Windows Phone app that delivers a collection of meals featuring chicken as the key ingredient.

I can remember my doctor advising me to eat more two legged animals than four legged every time he reviews my cholesterol levels. It's no secret that part of being fit is having a healthy diet and chicken can be a key ingredient to a nutritional meal.  Plus it makes those Chick-fil-a cows happy.

While this Windows Phone app has potential but left us a little on the hungry side and may have some asking "where's the beef?"

This week during Fitness Month we've been concentrating on apps for our Windows Phone that deals with the nutritional aspects of staying fit and healthy. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is one dietary aspect that many overlook and there are a few apps out there to help us remember to drink plenty of water during the day.

We touched on Water Log the other day and another app jumped off the screen to help us keep track of our water intake... WaterLogger.

While Water Log is more of a simple, straight shooter of an app WaterLogger has a few more bells and whistles. WaterLogger's brightly colored icon along with the 4.5 star rating in the Store stood out to us so we decided to take a look at this fitness app.  What we found was another nice fitness app for our Windows Phone.

Get water logged with Water Log

The Windows Phone app Water Log is designed to help remind you to drink water during the day. Part of being fit is proper nutrition and part of proper nutrition is drinking plenty of water every day. How much water is "plenty"? Some sources cite 3 liters for men and 2.2 liters for women. Then there's the "8 glasses a day" rule and Bing searches on the subject will find other recommendations and equations.

While opinions vary on how much water we should be drinking on a daily basis, it is important you drink. Water Log tracks your daily water consumption and reminds you to keep drinking. Water Log is a simple, yet effective way to meet your daily nutritional goals during Fitness Month and beyond.

Maintaining one's diet, er...lifestyle change, can be pretty tricky when you're on the go.  However, the newly-designed Weight Watchers official app, PointsPlus Calculator, makes it easier.  Whether you're out to dinner or picking up groceries for the week, all you need to do is enter the nutritional information into the calculator to find out how many points-per-serving an item will be.  The app will also let you log activity to see how many points you have burned by exercising.  The interface is simple and sleek.  PointsPlus is free to download, but is only available for Weight Watchers Online and eTools subscribers.  Due to the nature of the subscriptions, users are required to log into the app on a monthly basis.

Weight Watchers is just one of a plethora of companies to release "official" apps for for WP7 in recent weeks.  Microsoft likes this one so much that they listed it as one of their "must-have" apps in their Best of Marketplace.  Click on the Via link below to see the others that made the list.

Download the PointsPlus Calculator here (opens Zune).
