Windows Phone Game Round-up: Doodle Games

Windows Phone Central's round-up of doodle styled games for your Windows Phone

The Windows Phone Marketplace is full of quality apps and games. Each week Windows Phone Central will round-up a handful of applications or games that fit a certain theme. For example last week we looked at panoramic photography apps. Future round ups may deal with sports games one week and news apps the next.

This week the round up focuses on doodle styled games. These are games where the animations and graphics are doodled on to your Windows Phone, often with a graph paper backdrop. We have games where your running a line, dodging balls, and jumping from a perfectly good airplane.

As with every round-up or best of list, we choose the titles that stand out to us. If a title doesn't make the round-up it shouldn't reflect poorly on that title. If we've missed one, feel free to speak up in the comments.

Windows Phone Review: Doodle Bomber 7

The Windows Phone game Doodle Bomber 7 reminds me of Parachute Jump  with it's doodle-styled graphics and graph paper back drop. Where Parachute Jump calls for you to parachute safely from a plane, Doodle Bomber 7 is a game where you are the bombardier on a bombing mission.

You are competing against the Windows Phone CPU to see who can take out the most targets, that fill a canyon, for the highest point value. Miss the targets (or the canyon completely) and you lose one of your three lives. Lose all three lives and your opponent has the opportunity to take out the remaining targets without the pressure of having a competitor.

Overall, Doodle Bomber 7 is a nice game for your Windows Phone. Graphics are nice and the game play challenging enough to keep you busy for short bits of time.

If you recall, way back in November one of the events at Nokia World was the announcement of the Hackathon winner. Hackathon was a development contest where 40 developers had 40 hours to create an app for a Nokia Phone. Visiarc won the contest with their Windows Phone game Duudle. Why the recap? Well, Duudle is now available over at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Duudle is a Pictionary styled game for your Windows Phone where you have thirty seconds to doodle a picture describing a word. Then your opponents have to guess the word from the doodle. The quicker they correctly guess the word, the more points earned.

Duudle is a multi-player, turn based game that is played online much like AlphaJax or SpellIt. You'll need to register (free) with Duudle to play online when you first launch the game.  If you signup with your Facebook account, you'll automatically see your Facebook friends who are Duudle players.  You then pick up games against your Facebook friends or in random games to make new friends. Being turned based the game takes on a relaxing pace giving players up to seventy-two hours to complete their turn.

There is a free trial available for Duudle with the full version running $2.99. You can find your copy here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Thanks, Peter, for the tip!
