One of the many features of Windows Phone 8.1 is the ability to add a third row of tiles to your Windows Phone Start Screen. We’ve already gotten used to seeing the third row in action on the larger screened Nokia Lumia 1520 but how is it performing on the smaller screened devices?

WPCentral member nexialbinding has started this discussion in the forums asking just that. Nexialbinding updated a Lumia 920 and is a little put off on how terrible things look with the extra row added.

Some will argue that the one device missing from the Windows Phone ecosystem is a smartwatch. There are plenty alternatives out there but nothing that lends itself to the Modern UI of the Windows family.

Windows Phone Central member taymur has started this discussion in the WPCentral Forums suggesting we may see an announcement of a smartwatch from Nokia sooner than later. His hunch is based on the upcoming press conference from Nokia and the presser’s announcement graphics. The event tagged as “More” has a rotating set of symbols for the ‘O’ in More that includes a clock face.

We still expect to see the Nokia Lumia 630 and Lumia 930 announced at the press event, but our sources say no smartwatch will be on the table for Wednesday's event. Instead, look for something more towards September after Windows Phone 8.1 gets its first update. But what does the future hold for a Windows Phone smartwatch?

Once again, we travel to the Windows Phone Central forums to help a reader in need. This week, we are looking at a question by SocalTouch, who just purchased his Dell Venue 8 Pro. SocalTouch wants to know what the “best” podcast application for Windows 8 is. Let us see if we can help him out!

Before everyone screams out the Zune desktop application (because we know it is a favorite of many), let us note that our reader is looking for a Windows 8 application – something that is touch friend for his 8-inch Dell tablet, so think apps from the Windows Store.

With the light at the end of the tunnel becoming visible with Windows Phone 8.1 an interesting discussion is taking place in the WPCentral Forums.

We are expecting Windows Phone 8.1, codenamed “Blue” to be announced next week at Microsoft’s Build 2014 conference. New Windows Phones running Blue should arrive sometime this summer and current devices are expected to be upgradeable. Rumored features for Windows Phone 8.1 include Cortana, actionable notifications, dual-SIM support, a file picker, and micro-SD card support for apps.

But what if you could only have one of these features?

We have all been there. Through no fault of our own, our Windows Phones have been dropped, scratched up, sent sailing from a bicycle mount, or otherwise put in harm’s way at least once (more for some).

The latest chapter in Windows Phone horror stories comes from Windows Phone Central member abel920 who connected his loyal Nokia Lumia 920 to the micro USB charger before going to bed. He awoke to the smell of burning wires and wrote it off to someone toasting bread downstairs in the kitchen. While toasting bread in the middle of the night has happened, what generated the burnt wire smell was abel920’s Lumia 920 and charger.

When Facebook Messenger released for Windows Phone devices a couple of weeks back, it marked the third official way to chat with your Facebook friends on Windows Phone. No kidding!

While the Facebook integration is one of the touted features of the platform and you can chat with your Facebook friends from within the messaging app, you can also do the same using the official Facebook app developed by Microsoft. And now, there’s Facebook Messenger. All of which brings us to the question, "How do you chat with your Facebook friends from your Windows Phone?"

Our forums here at Windows Phone Central can be considered the breath and soul of the site itself; a place where fellow "Microsofties" can talk about the technology they hold dearest. In a post this week, WPCentral Member Dallas Gaston asks whether he should grab an Xbox One to pair with his Windows 8.1 Desktop, Surface 2 Pro, and Nokia Lumia 1520 or grab a PlayStation as he always has in the past.

Case or No Case for your Windows Phone?

The decision to use a case with your Windows Phone is an age-old debate that has been re-kindled in a recent discussion going on over in the Windows Phone Central Lumia Icon Forums.

WPCentral member johnnyshinta presents the question here in the forums while considering a case for his Nokia Lumia Icon. The case he tried with the Icon had small crevices on either side of the display that captured dust and was difficult to keep clean. In addition, it seemed to ruin the clean looks of the Icon.

Microsoft made it official a few weeks ago during the 2014 Mobile World Congress and relaxed the hardware requirements for future Windows Phones; namely removing the mandate for the three front facing buttons and camera button (the front buttons will be virtual, instead).

This will make some manufacturers happy in that they could use existing designs to run the Windows Phone OS without the need for re-design. Instead of hardware buttons, we could be relegated to on-screen buttons from some Windows Phone makers. While Samsung and HTC may be happy with this announcement, will consumers be happy with on-screen buttons and no camera button?
