One of our personal favorite applications for both Windows Phone and Windows 8, Nextgen Reader, is being listed free on the latter platform’s store. The Windows Store will have what is quite possibly the best RSS reader for the platform free, and it is only rumored to last for the remainder of today. As the app normally runs for $2.99 USD, it cannot hurt to pick it up now.

The popular puzzle game Glean has gone on sale on the Windows Phone Store. Not only is this a sale, but you're able to pick up the title for absolutely nothing. If you're not familiar with the name, the goal of the Glean is for players to draw a path with their finger from a provided starting point, collecting all the small and large objects without crossing paths.

It may sound like a simple concept, but it can prove challenging. Hop past the break for more details and download links.

Nothing beats some Goblin, Orc and Ogre bashing on your Windows Phone, especially when you don't have to pay for it. Dark Lands is an interesting game from the AppCampus program, the venture backed by Microsoft, Nokia and Aalto University. If you've not heard of the title prior this article, think of Dark Lands as an infinite runner with some RPG elements to it

Not sure as to the "why" or "when" but the Windows Phone Xbox gaming title Cut the Rope: Experiments is now free for the taking.

Experiment is a sequel to the Xbox game Cut the Rope where you must keep the little green monster Om Nom fed with candy. The puzzle game has over 150 levels of play that has you navigating your candy drops through various lab experiments.

The Cut the Rope series is an entertaining, mildly addictive game for your Windows Phone that is well suited for short gaming periods as well as longer marathon sessions.

If you're in the market for a fast paced game for your Windows Phone 8 device, take a look at Dhoom:3 The Game. It is the official game for the upcoming action/adventure movie Dhoom:3 that is due out in theaters later this year.

In a nutshell, Dhoom:3 The Game is an endless runner game played on a motorcycle. You run the streets of Chicago, staying one step ahead of the cops and avoiding hazards such as light posts, traffic and walls. You collect coins along the way that can be used to buy new bikes, new racing suits, and power-ups.  The further you travel, the higher your score.

Update 1PM ET: We now have the full list of stores with this limited offer, listed below

Here’s a special deal for you folks who live near an official Microsoft Store: you can pick up the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 for $0 with a new two year contract. How’s that for an offer you can’t refuse?

The offer is only good through November 3rd and as we said, in-store only, so don’t bother looking for this online anywhere as you won’t find it. Evidently, Microsoft is sending out emails to notify people of the deal and a few of you are snatching it up. Forum member ‘dkp23’ even posted a screenshot to verify its authenticity and indeed, we’ve heard from a few of you separately that this deal is legit.

Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One earlier this year, but that hasn't stopped Redmond wanting to get the word out and reach as many potential buyers as possible. This includes those who are subscribed to Xbox Live and own a current-gen 360. The company has released two new free shirts that bear the Xbox One logo. Pretty neat, but only if you wish to either advertise the console, or display your undying loyalty.

Last summer Microsoft posted a collection of free eBooks and over 1 million copies were downloaded by geeks around the globe. Now, once again, the company is offering up a collection of completely free literature for your consumption in EPUB, MOBI, or PDF formats.

Topics include: Office & Office 365, SharePoint, SQL Server, System Center, Visual Studio, Web Development, Windows, Windows Azure, and Windows Server.

This week, Gravilux for Windows 8 showed up free in the marketplace (but it will only be of no-cost for a limited time). The app is an “interactive musical star field visualizer”; simply touch the screen and simulated stars are whirled around and began to change color. You can even set the stars to react to music or other audio files in a custom playlist

Gravilux is a fun tool to amuse your friends with and show them what your fancy Windows 8/RT touch screen can do.

More than a few of you noticed a certain weather app on my Start screen from today’s earlier video on Simple Calendar 2. Truth be told the app in question, called Vieather, is not actually new, but it has had regular updates and its due for some recognition.

For one, the app is completely free. No ads either. Number two, it’s simply gorgeous looking. If you’re a big fan of the alarm app 627.AM, Simple Calendar, or any app that embraces the Modern UI theme then this app is for you (it’s also for Windows Phone 7.x and 8 devices, natch).

Windows 8 and RT gamers recently survived a dangerous outbreak of gaming deals thanks to the Microsoft Studios Sale, which only just ended. But now, another rash of Xbox Windows 8 deals threatens players’ well being – if not their wallets. Miniclip has made three of its games free for a limited time only: iStunt 2, Monster Island, and Gravity Guy. Can your Windows 8 or RT device handle so many free games at once time? There’s only one way to find out…

These games all have In-App Purchases, so Miniclip stands to profit even when giving their titles away. But you can enjoy and complete most of them without spending a cent, except perhaps for the ultra-tough Gravity Guy.

Update: All three games plus Fragger are also free on Windows Phone this week!

Head past the break for download links and our game descriptions!

In our ‘Best Xbox games of 2012’ feature, I named the sole Xbox-branded RPG Final Fantasy as one of the year’s finest. This year we have the very RPG-like strategy game Skulls of the Shogun to look forward to, but another Xbox RPG seems unlikely at present. Thankfully an indie developer has come along to fill the void with Doom & Destiny from HeartBit Interactive. Previously available as an Xbox Live Indie Game on 360, Windows Phone gamers can take the game with them on the go…. And for free (at the moment)!

Check out our initial impressions and hands-on video after the break.
