gerbil physics

With no new Xbox game release yesterday, it’s up to the Xbox Red Stripe Deal of the Week to keep players busy. Luckily it’s a good one, though it did go on sale for the same price back in April. I speak of Gerbil Physics, the cutest physics game in creation, from indie developer Pencel Games. Gamers who missed it the first time around have another chance to blow up gerbils on the cheap, which I believe is something we can all get behind.

Following on Gerbil Physics’ heels are the regular Red Stripe Deals. LunarX from InProcessout is a unique indie sci-fi game on sale for $1.49. For the same price, HD Scanner from Code Nomads lets you make high resolution document scans with your phone’s camera.

Update: As part of the Microsoft Publisher sale, a total of six games are on sale this week! Full list after the break.

On Xbox 360, the Xbox Live Spring Sale has just concluded. Starting later today, a selection of Microsoft Studios XBLA sales will go on sale. On the Windows Phone front, the big EA games sale took place during the same time as the 360’s Spring Sale. You’ll remember the EA sale as the one that took a bunch of crazily overpriced games like The Sims 3 and marked them down to just angrily overpriced. It’s good to own a Nokia phone, where the EA exclusives sell for much more reasonable prices.

Coinciding with the XBLA Microsoft Studios sale, it looks like we’re getting another Xbox game sale on Windows Phone! The sale titles include Gerbil Physics, ilomilo, and Zombies on the Phone, and three more games. Plus Gameloft’s Earthworm Jim just got a permanent price drop. More details after the break!

Xbox on Windows Phone Review: Gerbil Physics

In a software lineup crowded by physics puzzle games, any new physics puzzler needs some kind of hook in order to get players’ attention. Gerbil Physics from Pencel Games does this by being astonishingly cute and occasionally clever. How important is that cuteness? Having played every single Xbox Live-enabled game in the genre, I can assure you that Gerbil Physics’ abundance of personality is most appreciated. On top of that, it also has the pedigree of originally being an indie game for Xbox 360, much like Shoot 1UP and IonBallEX, making it equally worth a look.

This must be animal week for Xbox Live on Windows Phone. First we get the simian-themed Super Monkey Ball 2 as a new release, and now the sale game features hundreds of cuddly rodents. Plus it’s never been on sale before, unlike the previous June deals! Gerbil Physics from Pencel Games is on sale for $1.99, down from $2.99.

Sure, Gerbil Physics is a physics-based puzzle game, and we all own like twelve of those already. But this one’s 20 times cuter than the competition! Each level presents stacks of adorable, well drawn gerbils which players must then knock over with well-placed bombs. The Windows Phone version includes 72 levels (three times as many levels as the original Xbox 360 game), lots of new animations, music, and some entertaining story sequences, too.

We’ve heard whispers that a Gerbil Physics title update is in the works. I say whispers, but I might’ve put in a few suggestions as with the recent Chickens Can’t Fly update. Hey, I just mentioned another animal game! If only I could’ve worked Kinectimals into this post too… Oh well. Anyway, we’ll talk more about that update as soon as we can.

Gerbil Physics is on sale for $1.99 for one week only. Get it here on the Marketplace and start saving those gerbils!

WPCentral broke the news that Pencel Games’ Gerbil Physics would be coming to Xbox Live this week a little early. So it’s only fair that we should also reveal that the game has hit the Marketplace a few hours ahead of time as well. That’s right, you can get Gerbil Physics right now.

Gerbil Physics is a physics-based puzzle game that’s overflowing with cute and dripping with adorable. Each level presents stacks of adorable, well drawn gerbils which players must then knock over with well-placed bombs. The Windows Phone version includes 72 levels (three times as many levels as the original Xbox 360 game), lots of new animations, music, and some entertaining story sequences, too.

We’ve spent some time with the Windows Phone port and come away impressed. Since Xbox Live is drowning in physics puzzlers, it takes something extra to stand out from the crowd – namely personality! And anyone whose heart hasn’t been hardened by the rampant cynicism of the internet will find it warmed by these cuddly gerbils. The opening levels ease you into the gameplay mechanics and feature some nice new tutorial text. I do wish you had the option to replay a level immediately upon completing it (for a higher score) rather than automatically going on to the next level though.

For more information, check out our full preview – or download these fun papercraft designs.

Gerbil Physics costs $2.99 and there is a free trial. Get it here on the Marketplace. Thanks, Donald B., for the heads up!

We gave you an exclusive preview of Gerbil Physics, next week's Xbox LIVE title for Windows Phone, showing off the graphics and gameplay including details, story and history of the game--truly a must read (so go read it!).

Now, in preparation the developers of the game, in conjunction with Microsoft's Play XBLA site, are sponsoring some gerbil papercraft goodness. Basically go and print up those pages, cut and fold your way to a little afternoon project. What better way to spend your office work time (instead of surfing Reddit)? And if you submit your photos, Play XBLA might just post your pictures for full internet glory.

The Windows Phone version of Gerbil Physics was officially unveiled on Wednesday as part of a big batch of upcoming Xbox Live titles. Now WPCentral is pleased to bring you this exclusive preview of Pencel Games’ Gerbil Physics.

Gerbil Physics is a physics puzzler. In each level, players are presented with one or more stacks of gerbils and an allotment of bombs. The goal is to use careful bomb placement in order to knock the gerbils below a yellow line. If a gerbil remains above the line when you run out of bombs, you’ll fail the level and have to try again. Some levels throw addition kinks into the mix, like structures that must not be knocked over.
