jil sander

We've been reporting on the LG Jil Sander "fashion phone" for sometime now, especially with the hefty price drop of recent. The phone is not a Gen2 device but more like a Gen 1.5 but it does offer 16GB of storage for a decent cost.

The phone, like others, is here on display at CES 2012 and we finally got our tired grubby hands on it. Truth be told, we're kind of glad we passed on that impulse buy a few weeks ago. While the screen is actually quite vibrant, the rest of the device is a "whole lotta plastic" and it's quite thick to boot. It's interesting to have all physical keys on the front and the blue custom Accent color is nice but we just don't think it's enough to overcome some of its other pitfalls.

Having said that, it is going for quite cheap off contract and that 16GB of storage may make it a worthwhile purchase for some.

Not too much of a shock here, but we surmise that the LG-E906 aka the Jil Sander phone is probably not selling too well. First made available at the end of November for £299.99 ($460) the phone dropped to £199.99 sometime before Christmas. Now the phone has taken an even further price cut, 50% from the original, to a pretty sweet £149.99 ($231) which ain't half bad for a phone with 16GB internal storage.

To recap, the Jil Sander phone is a collaboration between the famous fashion house and LG. In fact, it's the only "new" phone from LG with Mango and it's not even that original as it is basically an Optimus 7 with some new styling. In that sense, its stats are a little under whelming with a 1Ghz CPU, 3.8" screen and a 5MP camera.

Having said that it is rather stylish and for that low price with no carrier ties, something worth considering.

For those looking for a slim and unique second-gen Windows Phone, could we steer your attention to the LG-E906 aka the Jil Sander phone? Expansys evidently has a UK exclusive on the device and are selling it currently for £299.99.

The Jil Sander's phone is a collaboration between the famed fashion house and LG to make a somewhat unique, yet somewhat plain Windows Phone. After all, it is a refresh of the Optimus 7 from last year. What's important for you spec fiends to remember is that this does feature 16GB of storage in addition to a 3.8" screen, 1 GHz CPU and 5MP camera. It also evidently has a custom accent color in the form of "electric blue" and a matching blue internal frame (revealed when the battery cover is removed).

Killer device? Certainly not. Worthy of consideration though? Yeah, we think it looks kind of sharp actually, but we have odd taste.

Order up the phone from here and check out Expansys's hands on with the device here.

One of our faithful readers has spotted a couple of ads for the Jil Sander edition LG E906 in Germany's Die ZeitDie Zeit is a highly-respected weekly newspaper in Germany, which also includes a lifestyle magazine called ZEITmagazin.  Typically, purveyors of chic, like Armani and Prada, grace the pages of ZEITmagazin, but this time its the Jil Sander E906 that is being flaunted in a full-page ad.  The ad looks like a still from the video that appeared on the Jil Sander website back in October, and informs readers that they can pick one up at Media Markt (described to us as Germany's version of Best Buy).

The Jil Sander E906 is essentially a modified LG Optimus 7, sporting a 3.8-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p. It comes bundled with a Jil Sander app, which allows users to browse clothing collections and more.  The specs are nothing outstanding, but the handset itself, complete with hardware buttons, is as suave as the ads.

We've covered the Jil Sander E906 handset, which is a Windows Phone handset with a minimalistic design, with press photos and passing through WiFi Interoperbility certification. Powered by Mango and a 1Ghz processor, this Jil Sander handset is perfect for anyone who's either a fan of simplistic fashion or follows the trend of the this designer.

A quick recap on some other features include a 3.8-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p. A Jil Sander app is bundled with the device which allows users to browse clothing collections and more. The handset is set to go on sale in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and the UK on October 7th.

Update: Today's the day, the handset is featured on the Jil Sander website (Mobile > Phone) and check out the official video below:

LG Jil Sander E906 with new press photos

We've previously looked at the LG E906 that passed through WiFi Interoperbilitly certification earlier this year and reported that it was running Mango and under the design hat of Jil Sander, a German design house. Now PocketNow have come across a specification sheet that confirms the handset is almost identical to the Optimus 7.

3.8-inch WVGA display is present and a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting 720p. The handset is actually slightly larger than the Optimus 7, but is 15 grams lighter in weight. Still no word on what's going to be present with exclusive content etc. but we could speculate that there will be a few fashion apps. As for frequencies, the E906 will be capable of HSDPA 7.2 on the 900, 1900, and 2100MHz band.

Personally, I wouldn't buy the device. That Windows button is horrible.

LG E906 gets GCF certification

The LG E906, which recently cropped up as a "Jil Sander branded design" has earned its GCF (Global Certification Forum) wings.  This is significant, as GCF is typically the last certification a device gets before hitting the shelves.  The E906 will support both GSM (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz) and W-CDMA (2100(I)/1900(II)/900(V) MHz) frequencies.  Though most of the technical details are not known, the Mango phone will have a WVGA display, presumably 3.8 inches, like its predecessor, the Optimus 7.  It wouldn't be surprising to see a 8MP camera, 512MB RAM and 1GHz processor as well.  There's no release date announced for the E906 yet, but it shouldn't be long now, given this last hurdle has been passed.

Pocketnow has managed to grab some pics of the LG E906 (referenced here) with as the title says, "Jil Sander Design House Branded". We're not sure what the deal with this phone is, but it's running Mango 7706 and looks to have (gasp) physical buttons on it, which means we're getting ready for a stampede of you folks demanding this thing. We don't blame ya, as it looks pretty great, even if it's just an Optimus 7 with a different back and slight changes.

Evidently, Jil Sander is a German design house. Yeah, we had no idea either nor do we know why they want in on an LG phone. But scrape that hideous logo off the front and we'd throw some money down on this device. It's nice to see LG bucking the trend a bit here with physical buttons, something we hope they stick with. Odd thing? The Windows Phone logo is the old, round one not the redesign. Tsk, tsk.
