These Windows Phone games are for the birds

Windows Phone Central Roundup: Bird Games
Windows Phone Central Game Roundup: Bird Games

As The Trashmen so aptly put it, "The birds is the word" with this week's Windows Phone Game Roundup. These are games with the central character being a bird.

Most are really nice games to pass the time with and include an Xbox Live title, a sequel, and one that can easily get tangled up in knots. We picked out five games that stood out in the Windows Phone Store and there are still a large flock of "bird" games loose in the store.

If we've missed your favorite game of birds, feel free to chime in below in the comments with your recommendations.

Windows Phone Game Round-up: Doodle Games

Windows Phone Central's round-up of doodle styled games for your Windows Phone

The Windows Phone Marketplace is full of quality apps and games. Each week Windows Phone Central will round-up a handful of applications or games that fit a certain theme. For example last week we looked at panoramic photography apps. Future round ups may deal with sports games one week and news apps the next.

This week the round up focuses on doodle styled games. These are games where the animations and graphics are doodled on to your Windows Phone, often with a graph paper backdrop. We have games where your running a line, dodging balls, and jumping from a perfectly good airplane.

As with every round-up or best of list, we choose the titles that stand out to us. If a title doesn't make the round-up it shouldn't reflect poorly on that title. If we've missed one, feel free to speak up in the comments.

Deal Alert: Line Birds now free in the Marketplace

There are a free killer-games out there that we like to highlight around these parts and Line Birds is one of them (see our review here). The game is very popular on the iPhone with over 3 million users and now that studio, Djinnworks, has decided to try their hand on Windows Phone 7. The game was released weeks ago for $1.99 and we happily paid it because it's just well done.

But the real news is now the game is completely free. We're not sure how long it will last as it just happened a few days ago (when it received it's v1.2 update) so we think you should jump on board now. The game is in the vein of Rainbow Rapture e.g. a distance game. Basically you're a bird who has to vertically dodge lines while trying to get power-ups:

"Guide these cute birds through a world full of danger. Unlock new birds as you progress through the game. Each bird has its own special ability from getting invisible or using time warp to a powerful explosion ability.

From the makers of Stick Stunt Biker, Stickman Cliff Diving, Line Runner, Line Jumper, Line Surfer, RunStickRun, Rope'n'Fly and more... "

Going from $1.99 to free is a heck of a Christmas gift for such a great game. Go get this now as you won't be disappointed. Thanks, Ben H., for the tip!

Windows Phone Game Review: LineBirds

LineBirds has had success over on the iPhone and Djinnworks is hoping to see similar success by bringing the popular game to the Windows Phone platform. LineBirds is an obstacle course type game where you try to navigate your bird through a maze of lines and obstacles.

The goal of the game is to navigate your bird the furthest through the maze. Brush one of the lines and all you'll loose is a few feathers. If it's more than just a glancing touch, game over. You also have moving dangers to avoid (airplanes) that will ruin your day as well.

Continued after the break.
