Is this Sprint's LG Windows Phone?

This isn't the first time we've seen the LG Windows Phone LS831.  It's appeared on WP Bench and we first caught wind of the device being at the FCC back in October 2011 but only had the FCC ID label to show for it.  There's even some speculation this is the LG Fantasy.  Now we have pictures (doesn't look like the leaked pics of the Fantasy) and more information that could make the LS831 Sprints new Windows Phone.

FCC documentation on the LG LS831 indicates this Windows Phone support CDMA in the EMSR 800MHz band. A band used by Sprint.  The LG Windows Phone also supports the 1900MHz CDMA band.  Along with the banding, you also have a Sprint/Nextel Waiver included in the FCC Documentation that ties the mysterious device to Sprint.

As far as device specs, beyond the 5mp camera everything else seems to be a bit of a mystery.

The LS831 appears to have a front facing camera and the screen size could be, what?  Four inches?  There is mention of a microSD card slot in the owners manual along with instructions on how to check available storage and formatting your microSD card.  But based on the side images, I don't see a microSD card slot exposed. Maybe under the hood?

The LS831 definitely sparks interest with all the Sprint connections.  That and it's nice to see LG still working on Windows Phones. Could this be Sprints next Windows Phone?  Or could the LS831 swing in Verizon's direction?

A closer look: LG Fantasy mockups

We saw some leaked images of the LG Fantasty recently, a phone long in the making and which passed the FCC earlier in 2011 with CDMA bands. The phone appeared over at XDA and while there is not a lot of info on the device, here is what we know:

  • 4" IPS display
  • 1GHz second generation CPU, scoring 85.7 on WP Bench (similar to HTC Radar)
  • 8GB of internal storage
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera; Rear camera (5MP?)
  • The device is very light
  • Three front capacitive buttons

No word if this will see the light of day anywhere--perhaps LG took too long and no carriers will pick it up? Either way, reader Brian has thrown together some high res, detailed mockups for us to compensate for those less-than-spectacular leaked images. While not a top-tier phone, it doesn't look too bad for a mid-range device and that IPS screen has us intrigued.

LG Fantasy leaked on XDA Developers

The LG Fantasy (the LS831, which passed through FCC earlier this year?) has been spotted on the XDA Developers forum. untitledmangxg has got his paws on the upcoming Windows Phone, and has published some photos to back up his claims (see above). While he hasn't provided any detail surrounding the specifications of the device, untitledmangxg does note that it sports a very nice 4" IPS display and is powered by Mango.

We've reached out to untitledmangxg for more information. It doesn't look half bad for a second generation device. What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments.
