Just days after a Chinese Lumia 800 surfaced sporting an updated version of Tango, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop told media outlets that the first Chinese Nokia Windows Phone devices will launch on March 28.  Elop did not confirm what model that first device would be, but it is expected to be the Lumia 800, which has been in testing for some time.  Other Lumia phones, will follow sometime in April and beyond.  Word has it those models will include the 710, 900, 610, and as one Weibo user discovered, possibly even the 719:

Nokia is looking to capitalize on what was a good chunk of business for their Symbian operating system.  They were beaten to the Windows Phone punch by HTC, who just launched in China, but it looks like they will give HTC a run for their money with a wide offering of devices.

Laptop Mag is hosting game two of the 2012 Smartphone Madness competition, which has the Nokia Lumia 710 Windows Phone up against the Android powered Samsung Galaxy Note. The low-end Windows Phone is competing with a 5.3" monster of a smartphone. Something even the HTC TITAN could have trouble taking on with regards to screen size.

We're also talking dual-core, 1GB RAM and 16GB storage (with Micro-SD support). But what the Lumia 710 has over the Samsung behemoth is not only the latest version of Microsoft's mobile OS, but a more affordable price point, a solid manufacturer brand, and a choice of colours.

Be sure to spare a few seconds of your time to vote for the Lumia 710.

We all find it humorous when carriers and retailers get things wrong, especially when it comes to Windows Phone. From mistaking specifications, to calling the platform "Windows Mobile" - it's all fun and games. Cue Future Shop, a Canadian chain of electronics stores.

As you can see in the above photos, Future Shop have got their minds muddled with the Lumia family of Nokia Windows Phones. The Lumia 800 is now the 710. Either that or Canada is getting a slightly confused selection of handsets. We still wonder just how it's possible for marketing / promotion material teams to get this so wrong.

Thanks Lucas for sending in the photo!

The Canadian carrier TELUS currently have a relatively large sale going on on their latest smartphone offerings. The special offers, that will run until the end of March, includes a Windows Phone - the Nokia Lumia 800. Should you be interested in purchasing the handset on TELUS, you'll be pleased to know that its price has been knocked down to just $25 (from $50).

Unfortunately all the eligible handsets require a 3-year ($50 /mo minimum) contract, but for $25 the Lumia 800 is a bargain. You can -of course- buy the 800 contract free for $529.

The above photo was captured at the Parque Arauco shopping mall in Chile, which displays Lumia 800 advertising banners being hung from the ceiling for maximum exposure on all floors. This may signal an imminent release of both the Lumia 710 and 800 into the country.

We'll keep a look out for launch parties and announcements for further detail. Good to see the manufacturer prepping the handset arrivals.

Nokia is planning to hold a number of launch events in Australia this month to celebrate the release of the Lumia 800. As one can see in the above image, an event is planned in three major cities - Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. The events are set to sport a number of Lumia (both 710 and 800) demos to allow the public to test drive the experience of Windows Phone and Nokia.

While we're not aware of exactly what the Finnish manufacturer has planned, but if London is anything to go by it should be an impressive day in each of the selected cities. The full event schedules are as follows:

As well as the above official launch parties, both Techin5 and WPDownUnder are collaborating to arrange a meet up at Melbourne, on the day of the Nokia Live event. Should you be interested in meeting up with other Windows Phone enthusiasts as well as the two websites, be sure to head on over to Techin5 (link below) and the WhirlPool thread for more details / updates.

WPDownUnder has reported that Telstra staff have received confirmation of the HTC TITAN II making its way to the Australian shores and onto the network. With the Lumia 800 being stocked at multiple sources across the country, as well as on Telstra itself, the situation is starting to pick up with regards to available hardware.

At an event last night, it was revealed that the HTC TITAN II (as well as another unnamed Android 4G handset) will be launching on Telstra this coming April. Even some lucky members of staff attending the event got the chance to take home a Lumia 800 with door prizes being handed out.

WPDownUnder expects the TITAN II to be available on the $79 /mo Freedom Connect plan, using the MRO bonus (no handset fee), and would total $1896 across the 24 month contract. Although, the site notes that should the HTC Velocity be anything to go by, then the TITAN II may also be available on the cheaper $59 plan, with a $5 /mo MRO free, totalling $1536.

What's more is that Nokia has reported that they're still in talks surrounding the introduction of the 4G international Lumia 900, which would further strengthen Australia's range of Windows Phones. Who would have thought last year that we would be seeing prosperous moves from both Microsoft and manufacturers in Australia?

An unlocked white Lumia 900 is available on eBay with expected shipping dates between April 3rd-9th. The handset joins the black and cyan versions that were previously available on the auction site back in January. The only difference separating the previous listings and this new one is the colour and price tag. The white Lumia 900 4G Windows Phone will set you back $829.

You never know with eBay listings such as this so proceed at your own risk. Check out the auction (and make your purchase) by following the source link to the item listing.

Vodafone Australia has the Lumia 800 available (only in black unfortunately) on contracts starting at just $29 /mo (cheapest plan includes a $10 /mo handset fee). The Windows Phone, which was reportedly hitting Australia in all four colours - black, white, cyan and magenta.

While a strong choice of colour is not present at Vodafone AU, the Lumia 800 is a superb Windows Phone that has received positive reviews across the board. Should you be interested in cyan though, Optus is sporting this choice on their product list and at a more attractive price of just $19 /mo.

The Nokia Lumia 710 is on offer at Vodafone UK for £150, accompanied by a 6-month Zune Pass. The Windows Phone was made available on both Vodafone and Three earlier last month for £199 (though Vodafone reportedly dropped the price to £150 soon after). The Lumia 710 packs a 1.4 Ghz processor, 3.7" screen, 5MP camera, 8GB storage and sports a handful of pre-loaded Nokia apps.

Hurry up should the offer intrigue you as it ends on March 31st. Ignore the 3/5 rating as this was left by a single Android-orientated reviewer who complained about the lack of storage for music lovers (Zune Pass / Nokia Music anyone?).

The device has been anticipated by those who have been awaiting for the carrier to launch the Windows Phone, but should a contract not be up your street, a no term option is available for $529.99.

The brains over at the XDA Developers community forum have been playing around with a leaked Vodafone branded Lumia 800 ROM, which MobileTechWorld has been testing against bug reports and what previous software updates addressed. 1600.2487.8107.12070 is set to be the next step from the previous major firmware release (1600.2483.8106.11500) for the Lumia 800 that addressed battery and WiFi connectivity issues.

The following is a compilation of all known fixes / improvements in 12070:

  • Battery drain issue has been fixed
  • Lack of audio Bass when listening through headsets has been addressed
  • Auto-white balance issue with the camera has been fixed
  • Hardware buttons backlights are now always illuminated at all available screen brightness levels
  • Diagnostics app has been updated to prevent users from receiving misleading technical readouts about their device

MobileTechWorld has noted that we should expect to see this update to be rolled out soon. We've reached out to Nokia for more details. Should you be an owner of the Lumia 800, fear not as it would appear the manufacturer is working hard to fix all user-reported problems.

To celebrate the Nokia UK Facebook page accumulating 200,000 'likes', the Finnish handset maker set up a competition for four lucky winners to receive a Tinchy Stryder signed black Lumia 800 Windows Phone (see above photo). They have just announced the four winners on Facebook today who will be receiving the handsets.

As well as the main winners there were also three runners up listed who each will receive a Nokia Purity Headset by Monster. If you look closely at the photo, does the signature look smudged to you?

Clove UK has announced the availability of the international Lumia 900 on their blog today, which will set the buyer back £528. While Clove has failed to specify a date as to when the Nokia Windows Phone will be ready to ship to customers, we would expect it to fit in with competitors such as Unlocked Mobiles and Carphone Warehouse, who are also set to stock the 900.

What's interesting to note is the pricing, and Clove seems to be far behind other retailers. Unlocked Mobiles is offering the same (unlocked) handset for just £445, almost £100 cheaper.

Nokia will be holding a Press Event on Monday, February 27, 2012, the first day of Mobile World Congress. The event is scheduled for 9:30am local time (that's 2:30am EST) and we are expecting Windows Phones to be on the agenda.  Look for more details on the Lumia 610 and 900 to be discussed and maybe even some of the other rumored Lumia numbers (719 maybe?).

If you're awake and would like to watch in, Nokia will have a live stream of the event that you can catch here.

If you're not able to watch the live stream, have no fear.  Our Dan Rubino will be in attendance taking notes and we will have all the details up on the site as quick as we can.

PocketNow has published more images of the upcoming budget Windows Phone, the Lumia 610. The colour variations fit in with the colour selection process for the Lumia family of Nokia handsets, which was recently explained. Rumours are flying left, right and centre, but the specifications for the low-end device are set to sport a 3.2" display, 3/5MP camera, and 256MB RAM.

The 610 is rumoured to be available in magenta, cyan, black and white. We'll be sure to keep a watchful eye out for any lying around at MWC to get some hands-on action.

This certainly wont be surprising to our readers (since we cover the global Nokia marketing campaign regularly) or anyone else who's in the loop when it comes to Windows Phone, but it would appear as though Nokia has grabbed the #1 spot for platform manufacturer marketshare according to Strategy Analytics, which runs alongside developers publishing statistics indication a climb in Lumia 800 usage.

The Finnish handset maker achieved the number one position with 33% marketshare in just four months, since the launch of the Lumia 800 in Europe. The Lumia family of Windows Phones has not only taken the platform by storm but also the world, and to illustrate this design appreciation the 800 received a number of awards at CES 2012.

Check out the chart below for an approximation for Windows Phone OEM marketshare.
