Meme

Unless you’ve been backpacking in Patagonia the past two weeks, you’ve probably seen a ‘Harlem Shake’ video or two (or three or four or five). But, when does a meme jump the shark? Probably once you get the people at the Today Show to absolutely murder the meme. That doesn’t seem to have stopped the UK folks at Nokia Music from doing their own version of the hip thrusting craze.

Pocket Meme, developed by our own RogueCode (the brains behind the Ffffound app), is now available on the Marketplace. Pocket Meme enables users to enjoy their daily dose of meme action (from QuickMeme.com) with most popular images being displayed upon launch. An entire list of memes is present with a filter for more convenient access.

Once selecting a single meme, the user is greeted by popular and upcoming images for that meme only. Selecting an image reveals the title and three tiles. The first is for a full size view, the second for saving the image to the Windows Phone, and third for sharing via SMS, email and integrated social networks.

The UI of Pocket Meme is both intuitive and beautiful, with a 3D cube to generate even more randomness. Memes and searches can be pinned to the home screen for quick access and viewing statistics are available that can be published to the social sphere.

Pocket Meme really is a superb app should you be a massive fan of such questionable content. In a future update live tile integration will be implemented, so stay tuned for more features. Check out the video below for some hands-on visual action.

You can download Pocket Meme from the Marketplace for $0.99 (£0.79) with a free trial available.

Our own Matt aka RogueCode has a new app heading to the Windows Phone Marketplace this week. Built off of the success of the Ffffound app (plus Tweet This Song! and Project Mosaic) but going further, Pocket Meme is an app for accessing those popular single-panel comics from QuickMeme.com directly to your phone--no ads, no chrome, just hilarity.

The app will allow you to save, view in high res and share (SMS, Email, Social), giving you full access to both the front-page as well as each meme's own section. Plus the coolest part: the random Meme selector (a 3D cube that you spin around).

Other features include the ability to Pin-to-Start individual memes, shake to randomize and in a future update, Live Tile support. All in all a fun app if you're a fan of QuickMeme (we are, in fact we asked Matt to make this!).

The app should be hitting the Marketplace this week and will fetch for $0.99.
