It's been an interesting past few weeks for Windows Insiders as we have seen a lot of changes and improvements coming to Windows 10. We have seen changes from various leak version of the operating system and from official builds, such as the case of Windows 10 build 10074, which included the new blur effect in the Start menu and new UI elements for Cortana. We even got a sneak peek of what is come thanks to Microsoft's Joe Belfiore demo during the Build conference.

CNET has released its official Windows Phone app. They actually released it a few days ago and it completely flew beneath our radar. Nonetheless, the app delivers all the tech savvy information CNET provides to the comforts of our Windows Phone 8 device.

Developed by CBS Interactive, the CNET app offers reviews, how-to articles, news stories and more from the world of technology. Here at Windows Phone Central, some apps just sit clear above the rest as our favorites. When it comes to gathering your favorite news sources and reading them in an efficient fashion, we do not go farther than NextMatter’s Nextgen Reader.

The popular RSS reading app for Windows 8 has received an update today and a plethora of new features and abilities have been introduced.

One of our personal favorite applications for both Windows Phone and Windows 8, Nextgen Reader, is being listed free on the latter platform’s store. The Windows Store will have what is quite possibly the best RSS reader for the platform free, and it is only rumored to last for the remainder of today. As the app normally runs for $2.99 USD, it cannot hurt to pick it up now.

It’s a popular application from iOS and Android that gives you a more traditional newspaper reading experience, but on your tablets, PC’s and smartphones. Just as you wouldn’t judge a book by its cover, don’t just an app by its screenshots. PressReader is awesome.

Earlier today, we wrote about the Firstpost app for Windows 8 from Network 18. The group has also released the official IBNLive app for Windows 8. There’s an IBNLive app for Windows Phone for quite some time now, and the Windows 8 app is a welcome addition.

IBNLive (ibnlive.com) is a comprehensive news portal that complements the network’s news channels. The Windows 8 app provides news from India, along with videos and photo galleries, as well as live scores. You can also watch Network 18’s news channels – CNN-IBN, IBN7, and IBN Lokmat live from within the app.

It’s published by The Times Group, which is also responsible for other popular publications like The Times of India, The Economic Times, and Maharasthtra Times. Today we’ve got a Windows Phone app now available for the Navbharat Times.

The official Huffington Post (www.huffingtonpost.com) app for Windows Phone 8 brings all your favourite articles, photos, videos and blogs from the popular resource and displays everything in a simple, intuitive user interface.

From politics to fashion, business and technology to entertainment, there's content covering the stories you wish to learn more about. Though this is the initial release of the app, The Huffington Post falls short on functionality and basic features we'd expect to see (and is highlighted on the store listing).

Deccan Chronicle is the third largest English newspaper in India in terms of readership and circulation, and very popular in South India. The publication’s official app has now arrived on Windows Phone.

While the app gives you free access to all content, including news, photo galleries, and opinion columns at Deccan Chronicle, it disappoints in user experience. Honestly, I’ve seen better mobile websites.

If you're looking to get more out of your Windows Phone 8 lockscreen, take a look at AwesomeLock. It's a simple, straight forward lockscreen app that delivers news, weather and upcoming appointments to your lockscreen.

AwesomeLock also delivers Bing daily pictures or you can tap into your Pictures Hub and use one of your own images for the lockscreen wallpaper.  The app makes a nice first impression and likely is only held back by the lack of a trial version.

If you’re a news junky or just enjoy having a solid app around, then you should really take a look at Paper Boy. The app comes from developer Lawrence Gripper who previously made BBC News Mobile. That app was our go-to news source until the BBC pulled some legal machinations to have it removed. But the soul of BBC News Mobile is back in Paper Boy.

We first informed you of Paper Boy back in July when the app was announced as a public beta. Today, it received a substantial update, including a new color scheme, drag down to refresh, and multiple performance enhancements to improve the user experience.

USA Today is arguably one of the best news apps on Windows Phone in terms of design and speed. It’s so minimal in its layout that it makes Microsoft blush and the fast loading  times of the app and related articles is nearly unprecedented.

There’s just one problem though: the app has had quite a few bugs since the last release, causing images and even articles to load incompletely. Frustrating users, many have complained in the app’s review on the Store that an update is required.
