More on the questionable Pureview Camera video that Nokia released. You know the one that has the reflection of a videographer holding something that doesn't look like a Pureview Camera.

Well after the video had been dissected this way and that, Nokia issued a clarification here that the images were taken with a prototype. Now Nokia has issued a formal apology for all the confusion.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will have a 4.5" WXGA, 1280x768 PureMotion HD+ display. It is being billed as the fastest and brightest displays and has the most sensitive touch responses.

We've been impressed with Nokia's ClearBlack technology found on other Lumia Windows Phones, such as the Lumia 900, and from what we have witness during today's press event the PureMotion technology definitely takes things to the next level.

Windows Phone Central's Photo Gallery from the Nokia Windows Phone Event

It has been a busy morning with all the news coming from Nokia's Windows Phone event.  We've seen the introduction of the Lumia 920, Lumia 820, the 8.7 megapixel Pureview Camera, floating lens technology, Nokia's Maps adding augmented reality, a handful of new Nokia exclusive apps, and a new Lenses app for the Windows Phone camera.

Then there's the Nokia Fat Boy charging pads, the JBL Bluetooth Speakers, and even Steve Ballmer popped in to say hello.  Our own Dan Rubino had front row seats for todays event.  While he's busy interviewing folks and snatching some hands on time with all that has been presented, we thought we'd share some images he's already captured.

Nokia walked us through the capabilities of the Lumia 920 camera, which lead to some impressive results. Implementing PureView technology into the Lumia Windows Phone, Nokia has been able to create something special for when moments occur that require a quick shot of a camera.

The f2.0 aperture lens ensures enough light passes through to the sensor and floating lens technology provides image stabilisation with the shutter being open for longer. We're eagerly awaiting the release of the Lumia 920 to finally venture outside and snap some shots.

Joe Belfiore spent a little time today at the Nokia Press Event going over some new features for Windows Phone 8 that we'll see on the Nokia Lumia 920 and other Windows Phones.  It's the Lenses App that will be integrated into the Windows Phone Camera App.

The overall camera app has been redesigned to remove the zoom slide bar (replaced with pinch to zoom) as well as adding a flash on/off button and a Lenses App button.  The Lenses App button functions very similar to Apps... functionality we already have from the three-dot menu when viewing images on our Windows Phone.

Nokia have announced that the Nokia Maps app will get getting the augmented reality (AR) treatment. At present, AR is only present in Nokia City Lens. At today’s Lumia announcement they showed maps switching to a view similar to what's present in City Lens.

We could also be witnessing an upcoming convergence with their location based apps having much more in common?

One of the missing components in the Windows Phone 8 developer story thus far has been the SDK. Aside from a leak back in July, there hasn't been any news regarding its official availability or state of completion. Well until now, that is.

Windows Marketplace Sr. Director Todd Brix just hit publish on a blog post this morning that outlines Windows Phone 8 SDK Preview bits that will be made available to a limited set of folks -- specifically developers with existing apps in the Marketplace. The rest of us will have to wait until the "full SDK" is available later this year when Windows Phone 8 goes gold.

As soon as the preview lands, WPCentral will get you the bits. Stay tuned!

Full post after the break.

Today at the joint Nokia and Microsoft event held in New York it was announced that the Lumia 920 and 820 would have the inclusion of Synaptics “Super Sensitive Touch” touch screen enhancements. The technology enables the new Lumia phones to correctly register touches even when the user is wearing gloves or using just their fingernails.

The demo given on stage had Nokia senior vice president Kevin Shields wearing a huge pair of skiing gloves He was easily able to unlock the screen and bring up the recent calls list during the demo. A current limitation of many smartphones is the failure to register any touch at all unless its finger input.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will have a 8.7megapixel Pureview Camera that is also fitted with floating lens technology.  What is floating lens technology?

As Nokia's Kevin Shields mentioned in today's New York event, the key to taking good pictures is light.  There are two basic ways to get more light with a camera.  First, create a larger opening for light to pass through.  The Nokia Lumia 920 will be fitted with a f2.0 aperture lens which allow more light to the camera sensor than the current Lumia Windows Phone models.

Ballmer takes the stage at New York

While a handful of Windows Phone 8 ("Apollo") features were demoed by Joe Belfiore on-stage today, there was little revealed in terms of when we can look to see the next major release of Windows Phone be made available. Could Build 2012 be were Window Phone 8 is shown off completely with dates announced? It's a strong possibility.

Nokia announced new Bluetooth headphones at the press conference today as well as a new JBL PowerUp Wireless Charging speaker. This sturdy looking device sports Bluetooth, NFC and wireless charging functionality, which works seamlessly with the Lumia 820 and 920.

Wireless charging enables Lumia 820 / 920 owners to make use of easy top-ups without cluttering a desk or area with more cabling. The speaker -of course- plays music and all that's required is the slightest tap from the Nokia Windows Phones through the use of NFC.

It looks like Nokia still has a few more exclusive apps for their Lumia Windows Phones to release.

Entrance by AOL, the app appears to be an all-around media/pop-culture/movie/music app that even features augmented reality for finding movie theaters around you. In addition, you can watch movie trailers, listen to music (including full-length albums), stream more than 60K radio stations and you can evidently pin just about everything to your Start screen.

Nokia Lumia 920 will have a Pureview Camera

When Nokia released the 41 megapixel Pureview Camera everyone was impressed with the image quality and just about everyone asked when we would see a Pureview Camera on a Windows Phone.  It may not be the 41 megapixel version but Nokia has announced that the new Lumia 920 Windows Phone will be fitted with a 8.7MP Pureview Camera with image stabilization.  Nokia refers to this as floating lens technology.

While the 8.7MP camera may be a disappointment to some but realize the 41 megapixel sensor isn't what defines a Pureview Camera.  It's the software driving the sensor combined with the sensor itself, along with the overall design of the camera that makes a Windows Phone camera  a Pureview Camera.

The Lumia 920 was announced today at the Nokia Windows Phone 8 press conference in downtown Manhattan, New York. Among the specifications and features presented was wireless charging, which will please many who don't enjoy fiddling with USB cables.

This is a new feature to the Windows Phone platform that enables Lumia 920 owners to recharge their smartphone by simply resting it on top of a supported accessory. Nokia will be releasing its own charging units, including plastic mats and Fatboy pillow units.

Making use of the Qi standard, we'll likely see public charging stations / mats being used to top-up Windows Phones. Exciting times ahead.

Check out our live blog and the Nokia feed for more details released today.

Nokia hoping to dine on jellybeans today

As we all sit here on tenterhooks awaiting the coming announcement from Nokia and Microsoft, Nokia’s twitter account just posted something strange. In what appears to be a little knock directed at Google’s Android OS, Nokia say “Today we dine on Jellybeans”.

Nokia appears to be stepping up their PR antics in the run up to the announcement with placards at Samsung’s recent event and of course the teaser trailers. Considering how well regarded Jellybean is, Nokia must be feeling confident they have the goods on this fine day.
