Now

Samsung continues to support its Windows Phones with OEM app updates. Today we're looking at two apps from the Samsung Zone that have been recently updated. Both Now and RSS Times have been bumped to new versions (3.7.0.2 and 2.0.2) with the former removing top tweets and adding in a currency converter. We're not entirely sure what's new in its RSS reader.

Samsung is back at work updating their core apps, which is good news for the handful of you ATIV owners out there.

Samsung’s Now app is actually not a half bad “all in one” spot for your local weather, news, stocks and even social information. It’s laid out nicely, has a double wide main tile and is surprisingly zippy (even though the load screen doesn’t match the ATIV’s resolution).

It was just last week where Samsung gave us a nice little overhaul to their "Now" app--their app which provides news, weather, Twitter trends, stocks and more.

The v2.x update brought Live Tiles, multiple tiles and Mango fast-app resuming but there was one nagging issue we kept hearing about--those Live Tiles never updated behind the scenes. It was only when you opened the app and refreshed, which obviously makes it sort of, pointless?

Version 2.2 just went live a little while ago. We've been running it for the last few hours and we could swear it's actually updating the weather and news tiles--but hey, we'll leave the mass testing to you folks. So download here in the Marketplace and let us know your experience in comments.

PS Yes, sorry folks, this is a Mango-only update. We know, it's cruel to tease.

Samsung's Now app gets Mango update, Live Tiles

Samsung's news and weather app, Now, just got bumped to v2.1 and it looks great. First off, it's now Mango compatible meaning fast-resume is there for app switching in addition to more language support, which should make our international users happy. Second it now has a Live Tile featuring the current temperature, conditions and high/low for the day. You can then create two secondary, flippy Live Tiles: News and Top Tweets

Other than that, since it was recompiled with the new Mango SDK 7.1 tools, it feels zippier and more smooth to us on our Focus running 7720. The app was "ok" before but with the Live Tile, new languages and speed, it's actually more useful than HTC's Sense app which was basically a portal to their Marketplace.

You can pick up v2.1 in the Samsung Zone or here's the link if you so desire. Thanks, uf12ahimusmanllah, for the tip!

Samsung updates the Now Hub

Samsung has updated its Windows Phone 7 application, Now, to includ Facebook and Twitter support. For added touches, a nifty audio jingle has also been added to accompany the opening animations of the news reader.

Top news stories, pulled from Rueters, can now be shared through your Facebook or Twitter account as well as via SMS or email. Weather information is still pulled from Accuweather.com and your stock information is provided through Yahoo Finance. While the Facebook and Twitter support are the obvious new additions, the app seems to have a little more zip to it suggesting that overall performance tweaks were also part of the update.

The Now Hub is a free application exclusive to Samsung Windows Phones and the update should be listed in your Marketplace app under "updates". If for some reason you don't have the Now Hub on your Samsung phone, you can find the full app in the Samsung Zone in the Marketplace.

Thanks goes out to David M. for the tip!
