Remember Place Tag beta? We barely do but at the time, it was a unique photo capturing experience in testing from Nokia. The app would let you take a picture and then create a virtual postcard by using location data and a template for text. Afterwards, you could share the creation with others. Place Tag was previewed in Barcelona earlier in 2013 at Mobile World Congress and then released in March.

This morning, Nokia has sent out emails announcing that the app and program have come to end. While that’s a bit of a shame, it’s more interesting to see what they’ve learned from the project.

Nokia just announced Place Tag, an app to help create digital postcards from our Windows Phones. We had some hands on with Place Tag during the 2013 Mobile World Congress and was impressed.

Another company, Postcard on the Run, is also offering a postcards app for our Windows Phone that share's the same name. What’s unique with the Postcard on the Run app is that you actually send physical postcards.  Postcard on the Run just got a little update bump and we decided to take a closer look.

Creating digital postcards with Nokia Place Tag

Digital photo postcards, the mobile revolution has been trying to use them to replace the traditional, and far slower postal equivalent for some time now, and our final Nokia app from MWC this year is a beta preview of their Place Tag service.

We can’t guarantee that what we saw is the final feature set, but this looks like another Nokia lens intended to extend your camera functionality rather than being a fully featured app, read on to find out how it all works.
