price reduction

Way back in June, we brought the news of the official Tapatalk client for Windows Phone 7.x and 8 arriving on the Store. The release was still early, requiring further development in addition to costing $2.99. We mentioned at the time that the price was set to assist the developer behind the project, Jagoba Los Arcos, who originally developed Foroplex, but the intention was always to make Tapatalk free.

Well, today is that day. Version 1.0.3 has now arrived on the Store and it is $0 for all.

Back when Windows Phone launched, developers had to fork over $99 a year for access to the Dev Center (then it was called App Hub).  However, at the beginning of this summer, Microsoft slashed the price to just $19, or as they aptly put it “the cost of a pizza”. That special offer was to expire yesterday, but Microsoft’s Todd Brix has taken to Twitter to announce that the price is staying for the near future (he actually announced it yesterday, but we missed it).

Last night, Windows Phone Central reported that Microsoft Stores were poised to reduce the cost of the Touch Cover from the current $119.99 to a more favorable $79.99. That reduction includes all five colors and is set to occur on August 30th online and in Microsoft Stores. The price drop is permanent and not a sale.

We can also now confirm that the Surface RT bundle, which includes both the Surface RT device and a black Touch Cover, will also reflect that price decrease. Currently, customers can buy the Surface RT with either 32GB or 64GB and a bundled black Touch Cover for $449 and $549, respectively.

Just a quick reminder that on Sunday, August 28, 2011 Trine's Hangman will be on sale for $.99. The popular hangman game for your Windows Phone was recently updated to version 1.11 with more updates already in the works.

Trine's has a free ad-supported version that you can find here and the paid version (normally $1.99) can be found here (both links opens Zune).  The only difference between the two is the presence of ads and if you're looking to get rid of the ads at a reduced cost, Sunday is your chance.

You might want to start checking now (hint, hint) to see if the price drop has taken effect.
