Pro Cam

This week in Abu Dhabi, Nokia released their Nokia Camera app, which finally combined their Pro Cam and Smart Cam apps into one, while adding a few new features too. Those new abilities include quick-access for Modes, instead of the full-range of manual controls, and performance improvements. The move was done in response to customer feedback and it really shows how Nokia wants to get their experience right.

There is still one nagging problem though: those with Lumias that are not the 92x or higher are excluded from downloading Nokia Camera. That will change though when ‘Lumia Black’, the upcoming firmware for all Lumias, arrives in the coming weeks and months.

Looking down at our plethora of Lumia devices, there’s a distinct pattern we’re noticing: there are a ton of Nokia apps. Indeed, when it comes to camera apps one could argue that Nokia has too many with some even overlapping in function. Such is the case with Smart Cam and Pro Cam, which makes us feel a little schizophrenic when we’re choosing camera Lenses to snap that perfect moment.

The app Nokia Camera is supposed to alleviate that problem by combining Smart and Pro Cams into one app for all Lumia devices. So says Nawzil, who according to his Twitter profile is a social network specialist at Microsoft Kuwait. He even posted a supposed icon of the new mega app, though we cannot verify its authenticity.

Nokia’s Pro Cam is an excellent camera app for those who have access to it. Sure, time between shots could be decreased, but it’s still a solid app for camera enthusiasts wanting granular control of settings. It was first available for the Nokia Lumia 1020, but later became available for anyone with a Lumia 92x device. Unfortunately, a few days ago we had reports in the forums that users were unable to install the app. Today it looks like it’s fixed.

Good news if you’re looking to ramp up your photography skills on the Lumia 925, as Nokia is now allowing the Pro Cam app on that phone. Previously, the advanced photography suite was only available for the Nokia Lumia 1020 but it was also known that it would trickle down to the 92x series later.

Today, we can confirm that on our Lumia 925 we can install and indeed use the app. We also suspect that Lumia 928 users may be also be able to use it as well as those on the Lumia 920 who have received the combo GDR2 + Amber updates. In order for the app to work, it requires some OS modifications and the Amber firmware that those new updates bring.

Windows Phone Central takes a closer look at the Nokia Lumia 1020's camera performance

One of the key reasons why the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 is a head turning is the 41MP camera. Simply put, it's one hell of a camera.

Sure, the 4.5 inch AMOLED Screen looks great, the matte finish feels comfortable in the hand and the Glance screen is cool but the centerpiece is definitely the camera.  It takes our Windows Phone photography to an exciting new level.

To compliment the hardware aspects of the Lumia 1020, Nokia has also developed a Pro Cam app that when combined with the 41MP camera makes the two a formidable pair. We've shared our full review of the Nokia Lumia 1020 and now we take a little closer look at the camera.

There's a new AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 commercial making the rounds that highlights the Lumia 1020's "zoom later" camera feature.

The thirty second spot demonstrates how the Nokia Pro Cam app on the Lumia 1020 can capture an image in full resolution and let you zoom in to your shot after you’ve taken it. Then rotate, re-frame, crop and share new images as many times as you want.

Nokia Pro Cam is a camera app that is currently only available on the new Lumia 1020. It reminds me a lot of the Windows Phone photography app ProShot or Camera360 in that Pro Cam gives you more control over the camera's settings.

While the Lumia 1020 is just hitting store shelves today, the Pro Cam app is seeing its first consumer update. The update for version 1.6.0.2 brings more user control to the table with a bracketing setting.

One of the trickiest things Nokia has had to cope with when bringing such a high end camera is the addition of advanced controls. For hobbyist and pro shooters, adjusting your white balance, ISO and other aspects are run of the mill. But not everyone who buys the Lumia 1020 will be at that level, so how do you ease them into those manual settings?

We are just a few hours away from Nokia's Zoom Re-Invented event where all that is the Nokia Lumia 1020 is expected to be revealed. A few hours is plenty of time for a few leaked images to pop up and this time around it's the ProCam camera app in the spotlight courtesy of @Vizileaks.

The ProCam app will be the driving force behind the Lumia 1020's 41MP EOS camera and if these images hold true, the user interface will incorporate a dial system to fine tune the camera's settings.  The interface looks nice and will put a lot of camera control at your finger tips without the need to bounce back and forth between the viewfinder and settings screens.
