Samsung is reportedly working on a new smartphone, running Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.

According to a new app that has been published to the Windows Phone Store by Samsung, the manufacturer has a new phone on the horizon called the "Cronus", which could well be the next ATIV Windows Phone - Sprint is taking on the ATIV S Neo. That phone is due to hit shelves in the coming weeks.

China Mobile, the country's largest carrier, is looking to stock and offer the Lumia 920, according to Huang Guoqiang, director of sales at Nokia China. The manufacturer (and Windows Phone as a whole) has punched through a hole in the wall in China with marketshare surpassing the iPhone just after the Lumia 710 and 800 both launched earlier this year.

The Nokia Windows Phone sports the Qualcomm MSM8690/8260A chipset that reportedly supports China Mobile's TD-SCDMA (GSM) standard, and will bring PureMotion HD+, PureView and other features to the Chinese market. China Telecom on the other hand will take up other OEM partners, including HTC and Samsung for its Windows Phone 8 lineup.

Availability dates, as well as details surrounding what hardware is going where, have not been released yet so we look forward to see how Nokia and other Windows Phone partners plan to rollout new hardware worldwide in supported markets.

Samsung announced the ATIV S Windows Phone today at its IFA 2012 presentation in Berlin. The current-most powerful Windows Phone features a similar look and feel of the Galaxy S3 (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), not to mention impressive entries on the specification sheet.

Sporting a 4.8" HD Super AMOLED display with GorillaGlass 2, dual-core 1.5Ghz CPU, 2300mAh battery, NFC, with 16GB or 32GB for storage (with SD support) it's certainly got a enough power for Windows Phone 8. But does the device interest you as a consumer? Be sure to participate in our poll.

Back on topic - we've got some more shots of the ATIV S, which were uploaded to the Windows Phone Facebook account. Be sure to check them out for a closer look at Samsung's Apollo offering.
