Scores

Here’s an app that all sports fans can get behind. One that isn’t focused on one region, but the planet as a whole. It’s called SofaScore LiveScore and it’s really awesome. It’s been out for Windows Phone since mid-summer, but we recently caught wind of it and the app itself received an update. What better time to talk about it. Let’s check it out.

While baseball is approaching it's summer break, there is a new app on the Windows Phone Marketplace to help you keep track of the second half of the season. Baseball NOW brings all the standings, stats and scores to your Windows Phone in a rather nice package.

The layout of Baseball NOW is a series of tiles that will let you access the various pages of Baseball NOW. When you first launch Baseball NOW you'll need to set your favorite team by tapping the "set fave" tile. Once set, your "fave" tile will display the team logo.

Baseball NOW supports push notifications for scores every ten minutes and has three animated wallpaper backgrounds to choose from. It is a nice app for keeping up with Major League Baseball scores and stats but a little lacking on the news side.

NFL Live is now available over at the Windows Phone Marketplace. It may not be endorsed or affiliated by the NFL but it does bring a hefty amount of NFL stats, news, and scores to your Windows Phone.

The main pages for NFL Live cover news items, scores, team standings, and a More Page that has links to ESPN videos, ESPN NFL Tweets, FOX NFL Tweets, and...well...more.

Key features of NFL Live include:

  • Live scoreboard of current games
  • Live game details including stats and play information
  • Shake to refresh feature
  • Live tile support for your favorite team
  • Team information
  • League leader stats
  • Ability to create a unique landing page for your favorite team.

The landing page for your favorite team creates an additional page for that team. The team page will display scores, news, and schedule information for that team.

NFL Live is a well laid out, information packed app for your Windows Phone. NFL Live is a free app and you can catch it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace. Thanks, Brock D., for the tip!

ESPN ScoreCenter - Review

Growing up, ABC's Wide World of Sports was the place to be for sports programming. How did the saying go? "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." Today, most will agree that ESPN is the leading name in sports programming, news and information.  Okay...so how does all this tie into Windows Phone 7? Easy.

ESPN recently released their first Windows Phone 7 application, ScoreCenter, that brings the resources of ESPN to your Windows Phone.  It's a clean, well presented application that will keep you up to date on the latest sports news and allow you to follow your favorite sports and teams. Move on past the break to see how well the ESPN ScoreCenter performed and how it measures up against another Windows Phone sports app, ScoreMobile.

Scoremobile has been updated to include additional sports leagues. The Windows Phone 7 application provides updated scores, stats, standings, betting odds, news and videos on your favorite sports leagues.  The original release only covered the NFL, NBA, NCAA Football and Basketball, NHL, and EPL Soccer.

Just in time for Spring Training and the start of race season, the update adds the following leagues/sports into the mix:

  • MLS Soccer, LIGA Soccer, SERI Soccer, Champions Soccer
  • CFL Football
  • MLB Baseball
  • NASCA and Formula One Racing
  • PGA Golf
  • WTA Tennis and ATP Tennis.

While we haven't heard anything official, the update also appears to have included some performance tweaks. Screens seem to load and refresh a little smoother from the original release.

There is a bug with the update that is easily fixed. If you apply the update through the Marketplace, you won't see the changes. However, if you uninstall the original version and re-install the updated version, you'll then see the new leagues.  The bad thing about this option is that you'll loose all your favorite teams.

If you haven't installed ScoreMobile and need a decent sports app, you can find it here (opens Zune) at the Marketplace. It's a free application.

ScoreMobile - Review

Score Media Ventures has brought ScoreMobile to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. The free app brings sports scores, news, stats and videos to your Windows Phone. Fantastic, right?

ScoreMobile also allows you to tag teams as your favorites, making it easier to follow their progress as the season moves along. The app has a minor degree of customization and it ran very stable.

To find out the particulars of ScoreMobile, follow the break.

ScoreMobile Update rumors

ScoreMobile hasn't been a part of the Windows Phone Marketplace for long and we're now hearing rumors of what the first update will entail.

It is our understanding that developers are wanting to add Live Tile functionality to ScoreMobile. Maybe a tile that will display your top three favorite team scores?  Maybe notification when a score for a favorite team changes?

Another addition should be to increase the sports leagues the app will monitor. Other platforms cover a wider range of leagues and one glaring omission with the Windows Phone 7 version is Major League Baseball. ScoreMobile plans to add MLB and a few other sports leagues in their next update. Hopefully, in the nick of time for Spring Training.

So...if you could bend the ear of SportsMobile developers, just in case they're listening, what would you like to see added?

Thanks goes out to Alan for the tip!

While there are over 7,000 apps for Windows Phone 7, the one sorely lacking area in development is a good sport's score app. Hopefully, that's about to change.  Last month, we mentioned that Score Media was working on bringing ScoreMobile to Windows Phone 7 and the app was recently released over at the Marketplace.

The app allows you to follow NFL, NBA, NCAA Basketball and Football, NHL, and EPL Soccer scores and news. ScoreMobile also allows you to tag your favorite teams for easy look-up and includes any T.V. coverage information.

The initial impression is good and we'll take ScoreMobile out this weekend and get a full review up shortly. It's a free application so if you want to check it out, you can find it here (opens your Zune desktop) at the Marketplace.
