Probably the toughest problem any new user faces when switching platforms is finding comparable apps on their new OS. Sure, we have the Windows Phone Central forums to help and we try to do what we can here, but Nokia has something even better.

Nokia, in conjunction with Xyologic, have teamed up to bring a site called Find your Favorite Apps (www.xyo.net/lumia) that allows you to name the platform you’re coming from (iPhone, Android), choose one of 15 supported countries and then the app you are looking to pick up. The service then searches database and comes up with what it thinks is the best choice. Heck, it even auto-creates a QR code for quick and easy scanning.

Now that Windows 8 is official, Microsoft is still going forward with the redesign and reimaging. Such is the case when you go to Windows.com or even their Blogs.Windows.com sites as both are showing a high-contrast look with the new logo.

We have to admit that we really like this new look. It’s bold, striking and of course it keeps in line with Microsoft’s Modern UI approach. Will it sell PCs? Not necessarily but Microsoft’s new look and image are key factors for consumers and we think they nailed it.

Just as we predicted, Microsoft's Free-Time Machine promotion that coincides with the Nokia Lumia 900 launch on AT&T, has gone live. The site just changed over to reveal that you can win a trip to Hawaii for four as well as a chance for one of 200,000 other "instant prizes".

All you need to do is enter your email address and then you're almost ready to play. The next screen asks for your details "in case you win" and then you get to play a simple memory game with the Live Tiles. Match the tiles and you win something. (We won a free song download. Meh, not bad, we'll take it.)

Here are the other official prizes:

50 x $250 Best Buy gift code
100 x $150 Mollymaid.com gift code
1000 x $50 Omaha Steaks gift code
2000 x $30  Fandango gift code
7000 x $5 Amazon gift code
190,000 x 160 Microsoft Points <-- "Free song"

You can also enter twice a day to play but you can't use alternate email addresses (it'll void the contest if you win). Of course if you're New York City, Chicago or San Francisco you can also stop by numerous locations to see the "Free-time Machine in person". More on that here including info on special guests.

Sounds kind of fun and we'll try to be there.

We know the Lumia 710 for T-Mobile, in both black and white versions, is just days from launching. In fact, it's exactly two-weeks from now on January 11th and T-Mobile already has it listed on the site as "coming soon".

The mid-range 710 features a 1.4Ghz CPU, 5MP low-aperture lens and "clear black" 3.7" LCD screen with physical buttons, making it quite the nice offering especially for the low-price point of $49.95 on contract. The device is the first Windows Phone from Nokia to land on the US shores but many are expecting it to be upstaged by whatever AT&T and Nokia have to show off at CES in the same week.

Hopefully we'll be able to pre-order this lil' guy soon as we're itching to get our hands on it ASAP.  Check our hands-on with the Lumia 710 after the break to get a quick tour.
