Thrill seekers, rejoice!

Nokia keeps trucking along with their exclusive apps and the latest coming in the form of their exceptionally well done official Six Flags tool.

The update found in version 1.26 just went live in the Nokia Collection and it has some added new features in addition to what appear to be standard performance enhancements (the app feels less sluggish to us now).

The two new additions we saw right away were on the Menu screen near the bottom: day planner and family locator.

Nokia recently brought along an official Windows Phone app for Six Flags amusement parks. The app enables users to view a map of their local Six Flags, locate services and points of interest within the park, and check out all the available rides (with intensity filters), plus much more. Part for the deal between the two companies is for the Lumia 900 to be advertised and promoted throughout the parks.

Now Nokia and Six Flags are running a sweepstakes where entrants could win a Lumia 900 and four tickets to any Six Flag theme park in the US. Pretty neat, eh? There are six prizes to give away, so be sure to get your entry in to be in with a chance of being picked. As usual, you are required to be 16 or above, and can only enter one person per email address per day, through July 31st.

To enter, head on over to the Six Flags website and fill in your details. Official rules are available so be sure to check them out before entering. Also check out our hands-on with the Six Flags Windows Phone app below.

You can download Six Flags from the Marketplace (Nokia Collection for Lumia handsets only).

The official Six Flags app from Nokia is a wild ride

The Six Flags app from Nokia for their Lumia line of Windows Phones received a small update today. Now at version 1.19 the update looks to be some minor bug fixes and under the hood optimizations that usually follow an initial public release. In other words, we’ve found no observable new features but presumably it will run a little faster now.

The official Six Flags app from Nokia is a companion app for the park which provides park info (location, hours), maps within the park (with augmented reality), videos, food and shop information (including descriptions) and park events (with a calendar). The deal between Nokia and Six Flags is mutual as the parks reportedly are heavily advertising the flagship Lumia 900.

Interestingly, neither Android or iOS have a Six Flags app making Lumia Windows Phones the first.

Today, Nokia has released their official Six Flags app exclusively for Lumia Windows Phones. The app was announced back at the beginning of May and it is now available. Six Flags is one of the largest US operators of amusement parks and is the go-to place for riding roller coasters, rides and general entertainment. The timing is perfect too as the July 4th week/weekend is the busiest time for such parks and Nokia has nailed it with this app.

The app features an interactive map of your local Six Flags, where you can tap on an icon to grab more info. What’s more, you can use the augmented-reality feature to find specific rides, bathrooms, restaurants, events or just shopping. The map has layers where you can filter specific rides (mild, moderate or maximum) etc. so you only see what you want. In addition, you have a satellite view and a general augmented-reality view to as well,

Park shows and their schedules are also listed including a calendar of events, which makes planning a snap and videos of various rides gives you a sneak peek of what to expect. Finally, you have Foursquare and Twitter feeds built in so you can checkin and or follow any local trends going on with the Six Flags hash-tag.

The app is fast, fluid and very well designed. We don’t go to Six Flags very often but if we had a season pass or we were heading to one, grabbing our Lumia Windows Phone would be a must.

Besides Nokia making a Six Flags app, the park is supposed to reciprocate by heavily advertising and promoting the AT&T Lumia 900 throughout their various locations, creating a nice synergy between the two companies.

Nokia has been a busy bee with bringing more big brand support to Windows Phone. We recently covered the manufacturer creating partnerships with a number of companies for new official Windows Phone apps to be developed, and to add one more name to the list we have Six Flags. For those who aren't familiar with the brand; Six Flags is an entertainment corporation that owns and runs multiple theme parks across the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Lumia Windows Phone owners will be able to enjoy a custom app, which will be available for all U.S. states, and Nokia will embark on a marketing partnership with Six Flags -- providing opportunities for the Lumia 900 to be advertised in amusement parks. Additionally, both companies will partner on national sweepstakes and retail promotions.

What about the app itself? The Six Flag app will sport unique content for each theme park, including an interactive map, attractions / ride information, cuisine and shopping, as well as special event listings. A customisable day planner enables visitors to plan their day ahead and check out rich media from Six Flags TV. Nokia will also provide discounts each night on select in-park retail, restaurant or games locations with Nokia Nightly Offers.

Check out the press release after the break. Source: PRNewsWireThanks Brian for the tip!
