Sun

You're following the Solar Cycle and would like to do so in style on your Windows Phone, right? If the answer to that is yes then you're going to want to check out The Sun Live. So what does the app do? It essentially enables you to track the activity on the surface of the sun on your Windows Phone. Displaying updated images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory, you'll be able to hunt for prominences, flares and sun spots.

The seaside is a wonderful place for sun, sea, sand and Windows Phones! Looks like Nokia are at it again, but this time they've teamed up with Quiksilver and a load of Surfer dudes to promote Windows Phone. If the images and video in this article are anything to go by, it looks like they had a hoot at Biarritz in France, this time hosting the Roxy Pro surfing tournament. Nokia have teamed up with Sosh and Quiksilver to launch a youth oriented variant of the sleek and stylish Lumia 610.

It’s would seem that no Windows Phone event by the sea is complete without a pair of oh-so-trendy Windows Phone endorsed white sunglasses. Microsoft and Nokia were there in force showing off the full range of Windows Phones, giving the beach boys n girls plenty of hands-on time. Of course no Windows Phone event would be complete without the “Smoked By Windows Phone” team smoking peoples phones so you’ll be happy to know they're at it again. If that's not enough, looks like spray on ‘I love Windows Phones’ tattoos were being dished out. Lets hope they come off this time?

File this under interesting, but it looks like Orange may be one of the first confirmed carriers to be getting a Nokia Windows Phone. The phone is the unheard of Nokia "Sun" (S46) which in this case, we're thinking is a re-brand of the Nokia Sabre or SeaRay The information comes by way of MonWindowsPhone in what appears to be an internal-Orange release list.

The phone has the following specs:

  • Windows 7.5 Phone Mango
  • Availability for week 46: 7-13 November 2011
  • 1.4Ghz Processor
  • Unibody shell polycarbonate
  • 16GB Memory
  • Photo 8Mpx
  • 3.7-inch AMOLED screen
  • Micro sim card

The one new feature appears to be confirmation of a 1.4GHz CPU, which should give the device some ample horsepower. The design, including the 3.7" screen and micro SIM card matches with what we've heard the Sabre's specs to be but could also be the SeaRay. But perhaps the most exciting news is the availability--the second week of November, just two weeks after Nokia World. It's at Nokia World where we expect the company to finally unveil its Windows Phone lineup in full detail--and of course WPCentral will be there to cover every aspect. Stay tuned...

We've mentioned before, the one big reason to consider the Samsung Focus (here on AT&T) or the Omnia 7 (rest of world) is the screen, featuring Samsung's Super AMOLED technology. It's hard to see in pictures at times, but in person, it really is outstanding and yes, a reason to possibly choose it over other devices.

In the picture above, you can see how the screen fairs in direct sunlight. There has been debate about whether or not Super AMOLED is superior in the sun compared to a traditional LCD, but at least in the case, the Omnia 7 appears to hold up pretty well.
