First look at Solar Warfare for Windows Phone

A few days ago, we highlighted three children’s games for Windows Phone that two-man indie developer TegTap brought along to Apps World. All great games for kids, but older gamers in our audience will naturally crave a more substantial gameplay experience. Luckily TegTap is poised to bring just such a game to Windows Phone 8 in the next few weeks…

We’re pleased to bring you this exclusive first look at the Windows Phone version of Solar Warfare (not to be confused with Star Warfare!) from TegTap. A 3D sci-fi shooter with expansive levels, gigantic bosses, and lots of ship upgrades to unlock, Solar Warfare is poised to take shoot-em-up fans by storm. It will even feature MOGA controller support shortly after launch. Head past the break for our hands-on video and preview!

Last year Windows Phone Central brought our readers the first news that indie developer TegTap would be releasing its popular 3D shooter Solar Warfare on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Before we give you an updated status report on Solar Warfare’s progress, let’s look at what else TegTap has been cooking up for mobile Windows platforms in the meantime.

At Apps World in San Francisco, we met with TegTap CEO Troy Tegeder to check out his studio’s lineup of kids’ games for Windows Phone and Windows 8. They’ve already published Dragon Maker for both phone and tablet/PC, and My Fairy Pony and Balloon Maker just for Windows Phone. All phone versions run on devices with 512 MB of RAM such as the Nokia Lumia 520.

We've got the full details and a hands-on video after the break.

If our last Casual Connect game preview Delicious: Emily’s Wedding was a little too feminine for you (shame!), then perhaps a space shooter will be more to your tastes. TegTap, a two man indie gaming studio is currently preparing to bring its most successful game Solar Warfare to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. It’s built with the Unity game engine, which should hopefully make for an easy dual platform release.

We met with CEO and game designer Troy Tegeder to discuss Solar Warfare’s development process, gameplay, and his future plans for mobile Windows platforms. We also demoed the Windows PC version of the game using the new Leap Motion controller. The Windows 8 game will support Leap Motion as well.

Head past the break for our exclusive video showing just how precise Solar Warfare’s motion controls really are!
