Arcade-style Tall Tale for Windows PC and Phone spooks as an AdDuplex HERO App

Tall Tale is an arcade-style game that has you guiding the game's hero, Beatrice, across a pyramid of cubes to change them to a unified color. Available for Windows PC and Phone, you face a series of monsters will make the task even more challenging and could spell doom for Beatrice if you hop the wrong way.

Tall Tale scores as today's AdDuplex HERO App; the HERO Apps program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network. The promotion AdDuplex with myAppFree, AppDeals, PluralSight and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month. Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers.

Tall Tale opens up to an uncomplicated primary menu with options to play the game, share the game and tap into the game's settings. Settings are minimal with options to mute the sound and access a brief help section.

Tall Tale

Gaming levels are spread out across a map that is progressively unlocked and grows progressively more challenging. The goal of the game is to bounce your hero Beatrice around a pyramid of blocks to clean them of all ritual markings and spread a uniform color. To make the game more challenging, you will have to dodge an assortment of Halloween characters intent on keeping the ritual markings in place.

Movement is accomplished by making diagonal swipes on the screen and Beatrice will jump in the direction of the swipe. Monsters vary in skills and each can be vanquished by jumping down on them from on high.

Just remember when the monsters have the high ground you cannot jump up onto a monster and defeat them. You can try, but it will not end well for Beatrice.

Monsters vary in style and abilities. For example, Pumpkins will randomly jump around the pyramid and will eventually explode, taking out anything sitting on an adjacent cube. Zombies will chase you around the pyramid and restore the ritual markings as they hop around the pyramid. Batty the Bats will poison you, reversing your controls for two moves. The bat attacks are the most challenging in that if you are not careful, swiping the wrong way (which you think is right) will send Beatrice to an untimely demise.

The layout of the pyramid will change slightly between levels of play and you are afforded three lives per game. You can also earn coins during gameplay, but it isn't very clear what these coins are for, other than keeping score. There's no store in which to spend the coins for upgrades to your gameplay or character, and no option to remove the ad support from this otherwise free game.

Gameplay is challenging and the cartoon graphics look good — overall Tall Tale is a fun game to spend a little time with. The game is designed in the spirit of the classic arcade game Qbert and represents that style of game well.

Tall Tale is a free, ad-supported game that is available for both Windows PC and Phones.
