In what may be one of the oddest media mash-ups we have seen in some time, developer Team 17 will release The Escapists The Walking Dead later this summer for the Xbox One and PC platforms. It will offer gamers a way to check out the storylines from the first issues of The Walking Dead comic book series in a game that looks and plays like Team 17's 8-bit based indie title The Escapists.
The Escapists is a single player puzzle role-playing game where the player controls a character who is trying to escape from a number of prisons. It was originally developed by one person, Chris Davis, for the PC in 2014 but Team 17 helped to create the Xbox One port which was released earlier in 2015.
IGN has the first hands-on impressions of The Escapists The Walking Dead:
"The game gives you control of Rick Grimes as he tries to secure the safety of a number of familiar characters by seeking out a safe escape route from each area, fending off the zombie hordes and keeping as many of them alive as possible as they escape. The game will faithfully keep to the timeline of the comics, so as you progress you'll move through a series of familiar locations."
Pricing for The Escapists The Walking Dead has yet to be announced.
