A new rumor claims that Microsoft has started development of a third feature update for Windows 8.1, but it's more than possible that the company could cancel those plans in favor of moving forward with the next version of Windows, code name "Threshold".
Microsoft released Update 1 for Windows 8.1 several months ago, and made it a requirement as it added a number of improvements for traditional mouse-and-keyboard PC users to better navigate the Modern user interface. Earlier this week, the company announced plans to add a few more features to the OS on August 12, but added that this download won't be required and won't be labeled as "Update 2."
WinBeta, citing unnamed sources, claims that Microsoft has started development of a third feature based update for Windows 8.1, for a possible fall release. However, the same story says that Microsoft could decide to cancel those plans in favor of launching the public beta of Threshold. There's no word on what would be contained in this third update.
Do you think Microsoft should add a few more features for a third Windows 8.1 update or should the company just move on and simply provide bug fixes and security updates for the OS after August 12's download?
