Two lawsuits filed against Microsoft over Windows 10 upgrade program

A new report says that Microsoft has been hit by two recent lawsuits, both of which claim the company's free Windows 10 upgrade violate government laws and regulations in the U.S. and Israel. Microsoft says the lawsuits are without merit.

According to The Seattle Times (via Neowin):

Three Florida men sued Microsoft in U.S. District Court in Florida on Friday, saying Microsoft's Windows 10 update prompts violated laws governing unsolicited electronic advertisements, as well as Federal Trade Commission prohibitions on deceptive and unfair practices.Microsoft was also sued last month in district court in Haifa, Israel. That suit, which is also seeking class-action status, alleges Windows 10 installed on Windows users' computers without their consent. That, the suit alleges, violates Israeli computer law.

Microsoft has stated in the past that the Windows 10 upgrade program for Windows 7 and 8.1 PC owners is voluntary. The free upgrade offer will end on Friday, July 29. In a statement, a company spokesperson said that these two new lawsuits "are without merit and we are confident we'll be successful in court." However, the company decided a few weeks ago not to appeal a case where a business owner took Microsoft to court over an unwanted Windows 10 upgrade to her PC. She was awarded $10,000 in damages.
