Uber was one of the biggest tech buzz words of 2014, and the popular ad-hoc taxi service is growing exponentially in 2015. The Windows Phone app has not seen too much in the way of updates, although the core functionality is there for those who need to request a ride.
Today, version 184.108.40.206 is live in the Store, and it is aimed at the Indian market. Indian law requires two-factor authentication for transactions, which Uber was not using for credit cards. As a result, those in Inida had no way to make payments for the service. The new update to the Windows Phone app adds Paytm Wallet, which should give a big boost to the Valley startup.
Paytm Wallet lets users transfer money from a bank account to the digital wallet, enabling users to make payments without the credit card middleman. Boasting 50 million users and 2 million daily transactions, Paytm is the largest of its kind in India today and they even have a Windows Phone app.
Adding support for Windows Phone, which is also popular in India, looks to be a wise choice by Uber.
