The VAIO PC brand was known for some high end notebook products when it was owned and operated by Sony. Now that it has been spun off into a separate company, the Japan-based VAIO will launch its first product in the US soon. It has started taking pre-orders for the upcoming VAIO Z Canvas 2-in-1 with Windows 10 Pro installed.
The 2.67-pound VAIO Z Canvas has a design similar to Microsoft's Surface Pro line, with a detachable keyboard that allows the 12.3-inch 2560x1704 touchscreen display to be used as a tablet. It also comes with a built-in kickstand, and it includes a digitizer stylus as well. Indeed, VAIO is marketing the Z Canvas directly at design professionals.
Inside, the PC has an Intel Core i7-4770HQ processor running at 2.20GHz. It can come with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of solid state drive storage space. The PC is labeled as a "Microsoft Signature Edition", which means it should be free of any bloatware out of the box. However, if you really want one, be prepared to pay. The VAIO Z Canvas's starting price is $2,199, with prices going up as high as $3,099 if you want one with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Shipments are scheduled to begin on October 5.
