Head of the Windows Insiders program Gabriel Aul revealed that a bug affecting Cherry Trail CPUs — including the Atom x5 and x7 — is preventing installation of Windows 10 build 10130 on the Surface 3.
Surface 3 owners trying to install Windows 10 build 10130 are facing issues with the tablet freezing at the BIOS screen, with a hard reboot resulting in a rollback to the previous build. Aul has confirmed that the bug is limited to hardware running the Atom x5 and x7, and that a solution is on the way:
@dotnetgator 10130 is a no-go for Surface 3. We have a bug that is unique to CherryTrail systems in that build. Relief is coming soon though— Gabriel Aul (@GabeAul) June 9, 2015
If you couldn't get the latest Windows 10 build to install on your Surface 3, now you know why. We'll let you know once Microsoft rolls out a fix.
