Volgarr the Viking

Microsoft will launch a new Xbox One game, Volgarr the Viking, for free on November 1 as part of its monthly Games For Gold service for paid Xbox Live Gold members.

Volgarr the Viking, developed by Crazy Viking Studios and previously released for the PC, will be free to download for the entire month of November for Xbox Live Gold subscribers on the Xbox One. The side scroller action game is designed to be a throwback to old school 16-bit console titles. Here's a quick description:

"Remember when games were tough? Return to the Golden Age of arcades with an all-NEW hardcore action experience that pulls no punches. Volgarr the Viking possesses all the hallmarks of the true classics - simple controls, high challenge, and meticulous design - combined with hand-made pixel animation, an epic soundtrack, and buckets of blood. Flex your gaming muscles and step into the arena with Volgarr the Viking. We dare you."

Volgarr the Viking won't be the free game for Xbox One owners in Germany, Russia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil; they will be able to access the full version of Powerstar Golf instead in November.

For Xbox 360 owners with Xbox Live Gold, they can download Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise for free from November 1-16. Then they can get the sci-fi first person shooter Red Faction: Guerilla for free from November 16-30. Which games are you most looking forward to playing?
