Microsoft HoloLens

While the Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality headset is still a long way from its commercial release, the company has been taking ideas for apps that will work on the device for the past few months in its "Share Your Idea" contest. Now Microsoft has picked three finalists that the public will get to vote on starting on Thursday, Jan. 21.

Here's the list of the three final app ideas:

  • Airquarium: Immerse yourself in your own personal aquarium
  • Grab the Idol: Your room is transformed into a hazard-filled puzzle dungeon. Grab the idol to escape!
  • Galaxy Explorer: Transcend time and space to explore our galaxy like never before.

Voting will begin at Noon Pacific time (3 p.m. Eastern) on Thursday but there's no word on when it will end. The winning proposal will be turned into a real app by Microsoft's HoloLens development team and released as a open source project so that other app creators can learn from it.
