Tonight is the start of a new and major awards event for the console, PC and mobile games industry with The Game Awards 2014. The event is being organized, and even funded, by journalist Geoff Keighley, and is basically the unofficial successor to the Spike TV Video Game Awards that ran for several years on that cable TV network.

The event is being held at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas and is being live streamed on a number of platforms, including YouTube and on Xbox Live for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners. The event begins at 9 pm Eastern time (6 pm Pacific time). The awards themselves are being given out in a variety of catagories, some of which were picked and voted on by a jury of gaming journalists, and the rest by game fans.

Perhaps more important than the awards themselves is the promise of a ton of new trailers for upcoming games during the event, including some for titles that are being officially announced tonight at The Game Awards 2014. While Microsoft has already said they won't be making any reveals during the event, there will almost certainly be some big announcements from third party publishers and developers that will be of interest to Xbox gamers. We will post up the most interesting reveals from the show. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the event.
