What grinds our Gears? The game Gears, which just got a free version.

WP Central

Last year we mentioned the game Gears on the Windows Phone Marketplace, noting it was quite a fun little puzzler. The goal of the game is to connect two stationary gears on the screen with a finite selection of variable sized gears from your collection. You simply drag-n-drop them on screen, connecting them up to each other and the gears start spinning.

The game starts off easy but quickly ramps up to being more challenging. With 100 levels it should keep most users busy for sometime but replay value is obviously low since the puzzles aren’t randomized.

WP Central

Originally fetching for $1.99 the game has received both a price drop ($0.99) and an ad-supported free version. The latter is just the just same game with some mini-ads that are surprisingly non-distracting from gameplay. You can play all 100 levels like that or, if you want you can pay the $0.99 to turn them off.

Our George Ponder liked the game last year and having been playing a few levels this morning, it’s not too bad. Toss in the fact that you can play it for free now, there’s little reason to not give it a try.

The game should appeal to those who like Xbox LIVE Revolution or Feed Me Oil. You can pick up Gears here in the Windows Phone Marketplace.

Might as well give it a try. This has been a nice Saturday. A free app to keep your WiFi connection alive and now free Gears!

I quite like this game, although some of the 'pixel perfect' placement of gears is a bit annoying. The difficulty isn't exactly linear...sometimes I'll take a while on a level, and then blast through the next few without having to think at all... Otherwise quite a fun casual type game
