Looking for a solid tennis game for your Windows Phone? Tennis Pro hit the Marketplace the other day and has potential. It does take a little time to get used to the game's physical engine but it's not too shabby of a tennis game.
Tennis Pro pits you against ten opponents that are progressively unlocked by winning a set against your current opponent. The games become more challenging as you move up the ladder of opponents as well. There are no settings or main menu per se with Tennis Pro. You will see a selection of tiles for your opponents numbered one through ten. Just tap on the unlocked tile you wish to challenge and you are sent into the game.
The game itself is your typical tennis match. Scores and set count is displayed in the upper left corner and a description of your shot (out, never passed the net, good shot, etc.) will be displayed in the upper right.
Game play with Tennis Pro is accomplished by tapping/holding your tennis racket and swatting at the ball as it bounces towards you. In many ways Tennis Pro is like learning tennis in real life. Your inclination is to smash the ball as hard as you can, only to see it sailing over the fence. It takes a little time and practice to get the right touch needed to keep the ball in play.
All in all, I liked Tennis Pro but it may not be for everyone. The graphics are nice, sound effect good but the racket control can be a little frustrating (much like the real game). There is a free trial version available for Tennis Pro to let you try before you buy. The full version of Tennis Pro will run you $.99 and you can find it here at the Windows Phone Marketplace.
