Xbox One owners can play Forza Motorsport 5 for free this weekend with Xbox Live Gold

forza motorsport 5

Microsoft is letting Xbox One owners who have a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription play the full version of the racing sim Forza Motorsport for free for four days starting tomorrow.

The free period begins at 12:01 am Pacific time on Thursday and ends at 11:59 Pacific time on Sunday. Microsoft says:

"The Forza Motorsport 5 weekend will allow you to check out the full Forza experience with special in-game challenges, play against others online and build your achievements and Gamerscore. Throughout the weekend, you will have the chance to compete in a special multiclass endurance in-game race event, Grand Tour of Prague. Complete this endurance event and drive at least 130 miles in the race to earn a new title and badge for your Forza Motorsport 5 profile. After the weekend, you'll have the option to purchase the game online from the Xbox Store or visit your favorite retailer and continue playing. You will also get to keep your Gamerscore and achievements earned while playing, so invite your Gold friends to play and see who has the best driving skill."

The free weekend is part of a promotion for the upcoming spin-off game, Forza Horizon 2, which will be released for the Xbox One on September 30. Will you be playing Forza Motorsport 5 for free this weekend?

I just sent my Xbox One in for repair yesterday morning, so I doubt it will be back by then. Plus it's our anniversary weekend away so it really only would have been possible Friday anyway. I hope they follow this up with making it a Deals with Gold for $30, though. Ever since getting my launch day console it has been on my list of wanting it but not quite willing to pay full price for (to be fair, I only have paid full price on one game... and that was with a gift card).

Yeah, used is an option and that's where I run into a conflict between my cheapness and my laziness. I much prefer digital downloads in general since I don't have to change the disc - and if the disc drive breaks again like this time, I could still play it until the most convenient time to send it in. But not being able to resell and not being to get it cheaper in the first place is definitely a pain. So far laziness has been winning, but that might change if they don't come up with a better digital download pricing scheme soon.

I got it for $20 from best Buy because Tiger Direct had it for $19.97, and Best Buy pricem atches their site. Watch out for things like that, because almsot a year after release, $30 is too much (especially for a digital copy).

Pretsy sure this game was already a Deals with Gold game back in June for like $30. Regardless, you can go on ebay right now and find auctions for digital download codes of this game for $25. Why wait!?

Huh, if it was a Deals with Gold it probably wasn't in Canada. I doubt I missed it; I check it pretty regularly. In any case, I didn't know you could buy digital codes on eBay so I'll definitely look into that as an option going forward for lots of games.

Yeah, I just checked the history and Forza 5 and Ryse were the very first Deals with Gold games back in June for $40 (down from $60). Perhaps it wasn't available in Canada. Not sure. But it definitely was in the U.S.

Regardless, yeah, you can easily get a download code off of ebay for like $25 for Forza 5 right now. Note that not all games have digital download codes that can be bought second-hand. The reason that Forza 5 is an option is becuase there is a Forza 5 Xbox One console bundle, so people would buy the bundle, not want Forza 5 and then just sell the code online. Same goes for Titanfall, and, I presume now for Madden 15 and soon for Sunset Overdrive and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Just be sure that you are buying from a respected seller and make sure the auction says the code is new/never used. I did it when I bought Titanfall for my brother and it worked well--I even got the guy to email me the code instantly. That said, always wait till the new Deals with Gold games are announced on Tuesdays. I bought that Titanfall code for $45 on a Monday night and then the next day Titanfall went on Deals with Gold for $25 (><). Oh well.

I think you can go to the xbox website and que for download itso that when you do get your xbox, it will be ready to download. Well at least that's what I did with my 360

I already bought Forza Motorsport 5. I was never into racing games until I played this game. And the Top Gear features are hilarious.

TIP:Check out updates by Microsoft....removes Nokia tag and adds Lumia tag on Panaroma and Creative Studio while another update pop in for Nokia Camera Beta which doesn't loses Nokia Tag!

Pretty cool perk, hopefully they do this kind of thing more often now.

Got forza at launch but I'm looking forward to fh2

Great game, no question....accept after you play it for a few hours....the 8 maps get old real quick...

I must have 7-8 hours into the campain in the game, I didn't finish because I go SO sick of the same maps/tracks over and over...."We now return to..."

Cool, they are giving it for free for the weekend, Nice, no question it's a great game and great looking...

It's a disappointing game if you owned 4, but it is a nice looking game. The community seems to have abandoned this game.

The graphics and physics did seem a bit better in 4. However the lighting is vastly superior in 5 and the haptic feedback in the triggers really helps plus you always race your buddies with the cloud! I do miss the UI of 4 it was easier to manage.

Sigh.. why didnt they do this earlier.. I'm getting the game on friday :P

EDIT: But hey, maybe I won't use it before the weekend. If I like it, I keep the game. If it's not much for me, I can sell it away. I'm not a huge car game person, but I'd like one at least. However EA Access will be getting NFS Rivals so that might just be enough for me.

Funny, I just bought it this weekend. I will say that F5 is a fantastic game. I've never been very comfortable using a controller for racing games, but new enhancements like trigger feedback etc. has really made it a much better experience.

Now if they could fix the unable to join session problem(rogers @home) right now using my dads phones internet sharing(bce). Didn't see the workaround virgin posted might try that once everyone else in the household have stopped using internet
