'Bing Elections' results are in, accurate in 95 percent of predictions

Last month we reported that Bing was launching 'Bing Elections' in order to predict the results of the U.S. mid-term elections. Well the results are in, and Bing's search database did surprisingly well: its predictions were right in more than 95 percent of all races, and ended up beating out seasoned political pundits on their predictions.

As detailed on the Bing blog, the results for their predictions are as follows:

  • Senate: Accurate in 34 of 35 seats (Louisiana run-off needed; not included).

  • House: Accurate in 419 of 435 seats

  • Governor: Accurate in 33 of 36 seats

These results are pretty fascinating considering the folks at Bing were relying on search data for their predictions. And rest assured, now that election season is out of the way, Microsoft will be honing their prediction technology on other critically important competitions such as March Madness and Dancing with the Stars.
