CD Projekt RED have been hard at work on The Witcher 3 for several years, delaying the game numerous times to ensure the game has a chance to knock Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from its WRPG throne.

The game closes the tale of the Witcher Geralt, whose super human abilities allow him to track and kill monsters which plague the game's gargantuan world - for cash of course. Geralt's unique abilities see him wrapped up in global politics and intrigue, leading him on quests that change the world.

This latest trailer showcases the game's gory combat, which shows off Geralt's ability to duel monsters, men and wield magic. We also get a look at some of Ciri, a playable female of elven blood.

As a bonus, check out this recent dev diary detailing how some of the game's dynamic monster hunting mechanics work:

The Witcher 3 is a vast expansion in scope over the previous games. The world is reportedly 20% larger than Skyrim, featuring unprecedented interaction between the player, NPCs and monsters, with 200+ hours of gameplay for completionists.

CD Projekt RED have noted that playing through the previous games isn't necessary to step in and enjoy The Witcher 3's dangerous world, as it features a contained plot surrounding the mysterious Wild Hunt, a cadre of evil riders that have appeared throughout The Witcher series to torment Geralt.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches on May 19th on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
