City Art Search

Microsoft has released new updates for its City Art Search apps for Windows Phone and Windows 8.1, which add, among other things, a way to sync the favorits list across both versions.

In case you are not familiar with the app, City Art Search allows serious art lovers to search and locate over 2,800 well-known items in museums and galleries all over the world. You can find which works of art are nearest to your location and create a list of your favorite pieces. Here's what's new in the 1.9 version

  • Justified text on Wikipedia previews for art and artists.
  • PC version has been updated. Your favorites list will now sync across your Windows Phone and your Laptop / Tablet.
  • Added new treatment for museums/galleries that we can't easily find artwork for. In this situation we add a map marker, but have no artwork listed. For example, the Vietnamese Museum of Fine Arts – which has no artwork listed on Wikipedia and no online art collection on their website.
  • We also added new artwork and fixed some data bugs.

Microsoft also points out that users of the apps can now select and tap on the "Latest Artwork Addition" option to see the 100 latest pieces of art that have been added to the app's database.
